Adding Plate SMDs

I thought I would do a quick post on the plate SMDs I have added to the motor. I despise the yellow glow of filament bulb and they aren't that bright!

Any how these are what I purchased.

And they come with both festoon (sprung so fit many sizes) and T10 or 501.

I first shortened the connection by resoldering only the connection I required rather than having a mass of cable. I then used a glue gun and to fasten them in place.

I did this for the 3 interior lights and both of the puddle lights. However to fit in the enclosure for the boot light it needed to be trimmed.

Which gives a nice tight fit..

This is how the lighting now looks at night...

Compared to the filament puddle light...

Indecently I have also tidied up the front. Standard 20 SMD T10 and changed the factory xenon bulb for a 6000K for a whiter light. (Iphone doesn't give a great colour representation but both sides and heads are the same colour)

Looks great. I have a diesel sports tourer and the thing that annoys me is that only the central interior light comes on when the doors are opened etc. The two map reading lights at the front by the rear view mirror don't. Has anyone done a mod to enable these upon the door opening or do they light up as standard on the executives. I guess it would just be a case of taking the feed from the central light.

p.s. they do work as normal lights when pushed so I know the bulbs work fine.

Slide the main control switch forward to the door opening setting!!!

That would be the problem, my car doesn't have that switch. Instead it has a grille for the HFT. May take it apart when I get 10 minutes to see if I can hard wire it.
