Took my 58 wagon for an air conditioning service as she wasn't blowing hot or cold. Honda charged me £65 for telling me what I already knew, that the ac wasn't working. Grrr!

Anyhoo, they said they had to regas her and will take off the £65 when (I'm thinking if) I take her back for a closer look. Could be £70 labour or £700 for a new compressor. Yikes!

might be the compressor relay, or the pressure sensor down in front of the condenser ....be careful, dealers are known to be very poor at diagnosing aircon faults, they will say gas or compressor or condenser before considering the simple and cheap parts

AFAIK the 8th gen aircon will be same as 7th gen aircon, see my aircon diagnosis guide pinned in 7th gen DIY

Try a few independent aircon specialists. They will fix it less.

Remember the idtec needs the aircon working to perform a regeneration. So be careful you might clog up your dpf.

He doesn't have a DPF ;)

Was it working when you brought it up to me? I remember manually checking the compressor and it fired up so I believe your compressor is ok, or at least it was then. I would swap out the relay first.

Did they tell you if it was low on gas before they refilled it?

Why is that then?

I'm not entirely sure myself, and i've not seen this on any other car. I can only think it has something to do with filtering the air for any passengers in the cabin. I can't think it has anything to do with managing excessive heat, as if anything when the compressor is running it is putting additional load on the engine anyway.

The DPF gets to over 500 degrees when in regeneration mode. But Rich is 100% correct, the forced regen sequence will not commence until the AC button is hit and the compressor kicks in. I've had to turn away a couple of cars now that came for a regen and didnt have working aircon. It's not specific to the HDS either, even on a snap on machine you have the same issue (it's programmed that way).

Interesting....

Thanks Rich & Fahad. Something to bear in mind.

btw on the 7th gen diesel, if you pull out the aircon relay with the ignition on (or engine running) the glow plug light will come on and stay on until cleared.

That will probably happen on the 8th gen too, so either pull out the relay and test it or try the test in that DIY and listen for the "clunk" of the compressor clutch, but don't put the key in the ignition.

Note also that the relay position in the box under the bonnet may be different on the 8th gen.

I seldom used the climate control since buying her in Oct 2014 so don't know if the compressor ever worked.

It's a weekend and usually a fair weather car.

Another thing. Honda advised that the rear brakes were down to 80%, fair enough they were said my car guy in Leicester.

Ordered the pads, Mon, arrived Wed. Went to my car guy today to find that they're not the right type even though I put all the correct details in the Europarts site.
Noticed she wasn't as free wheeling as before the pad change on the way home.
Got home to the pungent smell of burning from the OSR wheel, yep she's binding.

Also, bulge in sun roof seal allows tilt but no slide as it gets caught. Dayum!

Ooh and the left front speaker is probably blown and there's whole other epic topic on this forum about that.

Other than that she's a lovely car :(

Narrowed it down to the Lexus IS220d, Mazda MX5 (3rd Gen) or this Honda Accord iDTEC Ex Tourer. Is time to say goodbye to Accord number umpteen?

Aircon...use it or lose it

Vital to run it often to keep it working.
