The alternator on my 2007 Accord CDTI went today , not bad considering my cars done 187k , its been really noisey lately and today all the warning lights come on and the battery went flat , would it be best to get it fixed or just get a reconditioned alternator , can anyone recommend a good place to get a good recon alternator and will I need to fit the shorter belt with a recon alternator.

Thanks

I personally went for a used one, but would recommend getting the new pulley and possibly front bearing along with the shorter belt. theirs a diy here how to change the pulley somewhere.

What will the noise be the clutch ratchet in the alternator and how much to fix that fault

New pulley is around £70-£80 I think thats got the clutch in. I got a fully re-conditioned alternator for mine and fitted the shorter belt, you simply unbolt the idler pulley and throw it away (there is a diagram in with the belt).

does the new pulley come with the bearing and are there any DIY to show how to remove and replace the pulley.

Thanks

Got the car fixed today , a local electrical garage got me a new pulley in today and replaced it on my alternator for £40 + vat , I fitted it back on my car this afternoon and all is well again , all in all a cheap fix :D , the same pulley if id bought it from Honda would of cost me £75 then id of had to pay someone to remove and replace it so I saved a good bit of money.

Thats good news when I enquired it was dealer only for that pulley.
