alternator trouble. again!

very very peed off right now...

just been to play football and got in the car to come home. the car started but my HID's wouldnt power up and kept turning off and on again! i have had to leave my car where it was and get a lift home as i cant drive it in the dark. ive also got the glowplug light flashing now so ill stick my cade reader on it tomorrow and see if it registers anything now this has illuminated.

ive emailed the alternatorman and demanded a full refund and any conpensation for further damage caused if there is any. hopefully not but knowing my luck right now there probably is  just one thought though. i returned my faulty alternator in a px system so if i get a refund how will i go about getting this back? ive found a place called 'the starter motor and alternator company' that sell a brand new unit at £220 inc delivery so may as well go with that. has anyone used them at all? or euro car parts have them at £323.94 which is a Denso part. should have just done this in the first place i think :(

Dude, I feel for you. This sucks massively. I've not heard of this other place, but you've had such rotten luck with reconditioned units a new unit has to be the way to go now. Keep us posted on how you get on.

ive just got back from the car again. a mate drove me there so i could read the code and i have PO563 system voltage too high

this is 100% down to the alternator then surely????????

i really cant believe my luck or lack of with this car right now. its been a superb car for the last 4 years and now its become a right pain in the ****.... i feel like setting fire to it right now!!!! i need it fixed and asap as its dark in the morning now on the way to work which means i need lights on... i dont know how ill get to work in the morning at 5am as my cars 6 miles away and work is 15 miles away. dam it im so annoyed... oil leak, alternator, rear calipers/disks/pipes and pads all within 2 weeks

Don't sweat it man. It happens like that. I had a year of happy motoring when I first bought mine then the Clutch and flywheel went followed by and Sat Nav 2 months later months later. Hard times for a while to pay the bills, but once sorted she ran a treat again.

Thing is when something just works. You don't think about it, but when it has problems, you realise how awesome it was when it worked. It will get sorted, but it doesn't ease the pain.

well after a heated conversation with the alternatorman i have ordered a new alternator from euro car parts for £200. the alternatorman didnt want to know when i asked for a refund. i told him to refund my money and he can have both alternators and the spare pulley he sent back. ive lost confidence in his products and need a fast solution hence the new part ordered from euro car parts. he was 100% sure the alternator is not to blame for my warning lights even though i had told him i have read the code on the ecu. i said i would get a print out from Honda to show that it was faulty but he wont accept their word or information. ive been to Honda today and they said straight away that it must be the alternator and that i shouldnt drive it any more as once the battery is used up the car will just stop......

i told alternatorman that Honda had fitted it when they changed my injector seal and he said how do i know they havent damaged it when doing this work..... this bloke seems a complete idiot and cant accept the fact that he has sent me 2 faulty alternators. he said he couldnt see the problem with putting the new pulley on the first unit he sent but as i told him i wasnt happy with his work and just wanted a refund he said that i have a working alternator in my possession if i change the pulley.... i dont see why i have to change the pulley or pay to get this done and again pay to fit his alternator thats now over its 12 month warranty and may go bang at any time... he didnt offer any warranty on the replacement unit either so in his eyes thats it warranty is over on the original unit so its not his issue. he did offer to pay £40 for the 3rd fitting costs which i told him was a pi55 take. ive tried ringing him back and left a message but he hasnt bothered to contact me again and i doubt he will tbh as it was me that had to phone him this afternoon after he chose to ignore my emails i sent last night.

so this weekend im having a brand new alternator fitted that comes with a no quibble 2 year guarantee. i cross my fingers and hope that all those lights behave after and that nothing else has been damaged from alternatormans units. i still will be in possession of his 2 units he sent me along with the spare pulley which i have told him i will not return until i get my £ back, he then accused me of stealing from him. how can it be stealing if i have contacted him and asked for a refund that he isnt willing to accept. i feel he will lose out more as he is losing 2 units at £135 each once repaired or bodged or whatever he does to them. so he pays me £135 back and he gets his units back and we walk away from all of this or he continues to be a complete idiot and loses out on what could earn him £270 with the sale of the 2 units once sorted. his choice really but if i get no joy i might contact trading standards or better still take the units to be fixed correctly and sell them for £270 :)

i would seriously warn members on here about buying from this guy as his customer relations are non. complete c0ck...

new Denso alternator collected this morning from euro car parts £238. well worth getting new after all the headache ive had from this reconditioned unit. compared to Honda's £400 ish price for the same Denso unit it also makes good sense to go elsewhere...... it also comes with a 2 years warranty compared to Honda's 1 year!!!

fingers crossed i can find someone to fit it this weekend... so far im having no luck as its bank holiday and all the local garages are shut!!!!!! even Honda dont have time to do it :(

still cant find anyone to fit it :(

but a slight positive to come out of this is the alternatorman has against his will it seems agreed to a refund of the £135 i paid to him. ive requested that i also get my original alternator back too as this was part of the agreed terms of payment... im not going out without a fight over this  ive also told him im going to get my battery and electrics tested for any damage caused. hopefully there wont be any and the new alternator will resolve all these issues.

right so great news today guys. i managed to twist my mates arm to leave his bank holiday duties and come and fit me my new Denso alternator. £40 and some beers did the job :)

straight away the warning lights have all gone out and the battery seems to be charging as it should, i hope its not damaged in any way from this experience... so my car is fixed once again and with a bit of luck, which i dont seem to having much of recently with this car, there is no further issues from these dodgy alternators i have been getting from the alternatorman.

from now on i deal in 100% brand new parts for my car and anything else for that matter even if it did cost more. the recomditioned (or so called reconditioned) alternator was £135 and my old unit in PX. the new Denso alternator cost me £238, the extra £97 was well worth it. i just hope others on here can learn from my troubles and dealings with a recon alternator.

lastly i will say that i will never be dealing with this guy who calls himself the alternatorman as it seems he knows as much as i do when it comes to alternators, which is absolutely nothing. a shed and a can of silver paint is what picture i have in my head of his set up and fingers crossed that whatever he sends out will last the 12 month warranty period he gives on his units. he came over as very hard to get through and he would not and probably still will not accept that his unit has been faulty from install. he said Honda could have upset the electronics when changing the injector seal....... he had never heard of any alternator that had given symptoms that my car had after fitting the recon unit..... everyone i spoke to immediately said its probably the voltage regulator whether they be a mechanic or neighbour.... he has also sent me some very strange messages including one at about 4am saturday morning saying

" you are a top bloke and its a shame these emails will soon be stopping ive really enjoyed listening to what you have to say..."

customer relations?????????? pretty much non there is there.... this was sent after i had asked for a refund!!!!

so guys please be warned away from dealing with this so called alternator reconditioner 'alternatorman' it may pay to take yours to a local repair place although it seemed easier to do a px as you dont have to be without your car except for the time it takes to swap them over. believe me it has cost me much much more time, fuel and money from dealing with this idiot.

Glad it's sorted mate.

Glad it's sorted mate.
your not the only one Steve.

ive sent him a message telling him the news of the new alternator sorting out all the issues (hopefully) and turning out all the warning lights, running consistent with no lights glowing etc etc. Guess what he has replied with???????????

"can you send me the garage/mechanics number so i can contact them"

This guy just doesnt believe that his units are faulty..... so ive sent him Marshall Honda's number and that of the ex-Honda technician that has fitted the new unit. im not sure what hes expecting them to say except that his alternators are faulty!!!!! maybe he will take the word from someone else rather than me
