Above the radio is two vents, on the left I noticed today that two of the 5 veins are broken. they wont move side to side, not a big problem but its annoying because on my old Honda it happened but so so easy to mend but this looks like a rip the whole centre console to mend problem. Am I right??

Do these move from side to side? Pretty sure they don't move in at least one plane.

What he means is there are 2 rows of veins. The horizontal veins at the front move up and down and behind this is a pair of vertical veins which move side to side. From his description it sounds like it's the ones behind that don't seem to be working.

Have they just become disconnected from the adjuster handle in the middle?

From previous experience of these vents, all be it on a different car, the veins are held into a frame (it all just clips in for easy ***embly) which then pushes into the dash board surround. However I'm not sure if the vent ***embly pushes in from the front or back on these cars. If it's from the back you will need to take the panel off which will mean starting at the gear stick and working up.

My old golf had this. They'd found themselves disconnected from the centre adjusting shaft of plastic. I have no idea how this would come to be really. But I managed to get them to click back in simply by wiggling my fingers in between the horizontal shafts the vertical ones behind. There was a little bit of bending and give in the vent flaps though and I have wiry piano playing fingers  .

The accord has chunkier vent grills so I imagine you need to get something like some tweezer pliers involved in the job. However, you don't want to go scratching the plastic with the pliers. Maybe wrap some electrical tape around some small tweezer pliers so the metal doesn't scratch the plastic, slide them in between the vents, grab the problematic bits and try and click them into place maybe?

I will give this a go, the old accord you could just clip them in, this one looks like a torch and some blood spilled to get it to the perfection I like. If I work it out I will put it on here with a photo or diagram.

Just a little extra bit of info that I stumbled across in another thread. The top dashboard fascia comes off separately to the rest of the dash, so you don't have to remove it all as I previously though, just that one part. Take a look at some of the pics in a xcarlink DIY install. They use a 'special' thin tool to prize it off so it should be a relatively painless job.
