through that parts 24 thing online I ordered a steering rack from Jimmy's Parts (up north somewhere I think, will update with full address later..)

I'll try and be fair.. this is what happened

he sends me a steering rack - 'DEFINITELY' off a straight car, yes, it did 36k. right, lovely.

turns up, only when I take the boots off the ends, P/side rod is bent. ok, so maybe they don't strip them and check them first (would be nice but it's only a breakers, they're not engineers are they)

so I ring back and ask for a new one, yep no probs. be with you by the end of the week. is it ****

3 weeks later, still ringing and getting politeness (to be fair) oh sorry this went wrong, that went wrong, the courier lost it. etc)

gave up and asked for money back, still waiting on that. any longer and I'll just claim it back from the bank

total waste of time. what's weird is when you ring they are really apologetic and all that, and make it sound like THIS time is the one where it gets sorted. if they just sounded hopeless from the start I wouldn't have bothered with them

anyway, now you know. spend your money where you like of course but don't say you weren't warned ;)

I know what you mean Stuart, think they just want your money and that's about it .

I looked online for a part the other day with a place that sends your request to all it's participating breakers country wide and supplied them with the part # I required as a description of the part would not be enough as the parts are very similar but different.

The day after I got a quote from one which was dearer than retail price so I contacted them and told them this and was offered £15 off but also told them why I wanted the part and he said "oh are the parts different", let me check and I'll ring you back and you guessed it, WRONG PART #, so what's the point of giving them the part # in the first place .

If you paid on a credit card you have equal liability and can claim your money back through them.

There's also the distance selling regs too.

Citizens advice buro and Trading stands should be able to help.

in fairness... was just about to do a rant about them still not paying me, checked again and they have refunded lol

fair enough. I suppose

one benefit is I'm now left with a bent but dismantlable steering rack that I don't need to give back. might try and take it apart see if I can't rescue the seal off the good end and put it on my bad end so to speak. in theory they should be the same size (?)

I wouldn't mind so much but this is what I do for a job, albeit for an elec. company, I order stuff all day every day and occasionally things are wrong, which is understandable, but at least accept blame and get it sorted pronto

there are one or two culprits though lol, some of the suppliers when one person answers I ask for someone else, he's "£$%"$% useless .. order 10 lenghts of minitrunking and he'll send you a bunch of £"$ bananas or something lol

never mind, done with now
