Back Seat and Drivers side floor soaking

Done a wee bit of investigation yesterday on this, checked up under the dash for leaks, couldn't see anything after water test. Checked round doors for ingress, couldn't see anything except a very slight drip (technically it wasn't even dripping in but just a little globule of water appearing) coming in at top of drivers door seal. I must say though that I was pouring copious amounts of water over it very closely so it may have breached the seal. I reset the seal and this seemed to stop it.

The back seats are wet and the drivers side back and front floors are sodden wet. I checked in the boot for leaks round the lights and couldn't see anything. The problem is that my brother drives the car and says he gets water dripping on to his head when he brakes plus the windows are covered in moisture all the time. I think probably the moisture is condensing on the metal inside the roof and running down through the sun visor bit somewhere. I had this on one of my old cars (a cavalier) with a water leak; just there was so much water it was condensing to every metal and glass surface.

I did not check the hatch top hinge mounts and wonder if this might be the cause - dripping onto back seats and then onto floor; be a bit strange having a leak onto the floor spread upwards into the seat so reckon maybe it's the hinges! I am going to try and have a look today. Is there any common areas the Accord Hatch leak - apart from the areas I already mentioned in my check?

Do you have sunroof? If so, you could have the drain tubes clogged...
 
Sorry forgot to mention no sunroof. I did look today and at the top of the C panel above the seat there is a join where the plastic inside trim meets the roof trim. This is dripping wet at the join. I cant say if the leak is from the rubber hatch seal or the hinges but I definitely have narrowed it down to this area.
 
does sound like either a perished seal or blocked drain of some sort. Inspect the quality of the seals and look for any that have split or lost there shape. Could be that they are not sitting properly maybe

It's certainly coming in above the main weather seal right above the C pillar trim. Currently not fully investigated so can't say what it is but will post on here - when I find the problem - so that it helps anyone else with similar problem.
 
Found where it is coming in, if I pull down the headlining at the back just below the hatch hinge it is dripping in. My feeling is it must be coming in through the hinge, it looks slightly rusty round the hinge so reckon there may be pitting/holes under the paint and sealant. Has anyone had a similar problem? Don't want to remove the tailgate is possible just clean away the rust round the hinge and seal it up.

What i said was wrong, the leak was actually coming in from the back of the little gutter trim thing on the roof; you can just push it forward a bit and lift it up then clean and reseal the roof panel join as the sealant looked to have dried out. spend ages sealing up the bit under the hatch hinge and it wasn't that even though it seemed to start leaking when I put the water there, it must have hit the bit where the roof gutter is at the same time.

I've leaks in the boot too - 2000 W hatch. The tyre well was absolutely swimming - about 6 inches of water sloshing round, probably soaking all the surrounding trim and padding. I've taken one of the rubber bungs out and dried out what I can, but I guess the water will still be getting in. Pretty sure the tail light gaskets need revitalizing or renewing - any suggestions people? Also, looks like the hinges are leaking, with the water running down the 'C' pillar trim. Reading the forums it looks a common problem. I was thinking of cleaning the hinges up, then liberally applying grease all over. Anyone got any better ideas (which doesn't involve major refurbishment?)

The taillights are a common area for leak, so check that first, ceck the rubber gasket thing for boot cor any rips, cracks etc.
 
It's the hinges. Water drips down the C pillar and onto the rear shockabsorer mounts. It then "divides" with some water running into the rear of the car and some to the rear footwell.

You need to remove the hatch. I tried to clean the hinges and applying all sorts of different remedies... it just doesn't work, and it's almost impossible to get to the back of the hinges. Removing the hatch is easy (10 minutes if you have a friend to help you). Remove any loose rust, dry off with i.e. a hairdryer and then apply Sikaflex or equivalent. Did the job for me and the car is now dry :)
 
Hi, I think I've sorted my various leaks too, fingers crossed. We've certainly had plenty of rain recently but, so far, no optional extra swimming pool in the boot... I liberally applied waterproof grease to the hatches hinges, the ends of the roof gutters (under the plastic strip) and removed, cleaned and 'revived' the light clusters and their rubber seals. Also, the light clusters have a locating pin which engages a plastic socket which sticks through the bulkhead. The seals on these were perished, so cleaned them up and stuck them back in with sealant. Job done, I hope!
