Guys (gals?), I've just discovered that I have a broken front right (drivers side) stabiliser link/drop link... the Honda part number is 51320-SED-013 and Lings list it as £55 +VAT +delivery. Ouch!

Looks an OK job, but can anyone recommend a good place to buy this part a bit cheaper? I expect to get a better deal from HH, but it already seems like a very expensive part for what it is.

EuroCarParts (cough) sell Q-Drive, Ocap and Lemforder pattern parts, all for less than £15 each, but are they any good???

Cheers, Jon.

Jon tbo I would buy genuin hear as there are lots of members that have brought after market ones and have failed.
Give HH a call and see what they quote.

You're probably right Brett... please can you PM me the discount code? Cheers.
No probs Jon ill pm you now.
Tbo anything to do with suspension I always try to buy the best I can for safety issues

Btw Jon I had a look on my Admin CP last might to see if anything was missing on you profile for posting links.
All seemed in order so hopefully Alan will have a look.
I still got no smileys on the iPad only on my laptop

Thanks Brett. Ever since the site revamp I've been unable to paste anything into posts. Neither can I quote other posts, although this did start working for a couple of days, but then stopped again. Very odd!

Hopefully Al will look at this as Fahad text him.
Did you clean up all your catch files as this might help

I went for Lemforders on the rear, I think got them for about £13each after a ECP promotion. They seem reasonable quality, only time will tell of course (currently 6mth in and +1MOT).

I fitted OEM on the front at the same time and to be honest, I slightly regretted paying for the OEM part and my car is fully Honda OEM,fully serviced, parts etc so I am not one for scrimping in that respect. Those rear droplinks are the only non-Honda parts.

They are basically 1/4 of the price so would need to last 2-3yr to match the price/quality ratio. If you are doing them yourself and therefore no labour cost then I'd certainly say give them a try or if the car will be getting changed soon I wouldn't buy OEM.

i would not put 10quid parts on a honda, i got these ones

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150661538274

can tell from handling them that they are a quality part.

a lesson i have learnt from the school of hard knocks is if you pay $hit you get $hit.

I recently got a Huawei E5332 modem for the sticks in Ireland where I am now, and after using it for a few weeks found it rubbish, kept dropping connection, until it eventually stopped working for good. Cost about £60

The 2 weeks return window was over and I am out of luck it seems but sent it back to the seller anyway telling her to shove it up her A$$.

I got a much more expensive and much better B683 modem and it works great.

just my 2c,

Thanks to all for various replacement suggestions... having read a few threads I've decided to buy the ones recommended by Jason (same as the Meyle ones Eric suggested, but heavy duty for £2 extra). Lemforder also looked good (apparently oem on some Mercs?) but ECP/CP4L are currently out of stock. I don't know how much HH would actually discount the Honda ones for, but the regular Honda price is already so much higher than aftermarket that I think I'd be wasting their time!

Thanks all.

Funnily enough I knew Lemforders were German, but had a look to confirm it last night and they are made by ZF Friedrichshafen, a company founded by Ferdinand von Zeppelin. The sort of useless throwaway facts I like lol.

As I said, I regretted paying the full OEM price because in the hand the Lemforders weren't cheap junk, Infact the plastic union seemed to be the common bit to break on the OEM's something you don't have on the Lemforder which are fully metal.

I am actually having a problem finding tourer front drop links (for info, Honda list different part numbers for the tourer and saloon models).

Eric's eBay link was rear droplinks and Jason's eBay link was front droplinks, but for saloon models (the ad does state 'saloon models only' in capitals). But at least I know that you recommend Meyle parts from that same seller, which gave me a warm feeling.

So, I contacted the seller (johnyboy-1) to ask if they could supply front droplinks for a tourer. They have replied to say they are the same part and I should buy the saloon ones (same as Jason linked to). Despite this ***urance, I have too many doubts to buy what appears to be the wrong part so decided to buy elsewhere (although I can't imagine why a tourer might be different to a saloon in this regard!).

I decided to get cheap EuroCarParts Ocap parts, but then found that these are also listed as suitable for both saloon (CN1) and tourer (CN2) fitment. BUT HONDA SAY THEY ARE DIFFERENT!!!

Does anyone actually know what the difference is?

Jon I no the rear suspension parts are different but not sure about front.
I no I might be going on but this is why I buy OEM parts as your sure to get the correct part every time with your reg

PS except when they don't make them lol

You make a good point Brett, but I'm struggling with the Honda parts being so damned expensive! And both the Meyle and Lemforder parts are acknowledged to be well made (for a fraction of the cost).

However, I haven't contacted HH yet, and that hasn't been ruled out.

Jon you have a PM - I think?? On the phone so I hope it went through

Summary - they fit saloon and tourer on the front

Cheers Jason. PM received and replied to... I will now buy the ones you suggested.
Good stuff Jon keep us updated on the quality of the product

Just to follow up this on a PC rather than my phone.

I've fitted the above not to my car, as I originally purchase OEM ones that cost a fortune. For the rear, I didn't go OEM as they just didn't seem worth it. 18 months on and no problems from the rear. I did however fit them to a 2.2 Diesel Tourer no problem, so they fit.

From what i can see the tourer and saloon as pretty much the same setup on the front the rear being different. Why do Honda use different p/n's? Not sure, but I know that the saloon and tourer for components like ARB, Springs, Shocks, etc have different rates. However the are all the same shape. For the droplink, I can only imagine they used a different part number to support the use of a different strength link? Or at least give them the option.

Any after market parts I checked for the front droplinks, are the same for the saloon and tourer, petrol and diesel.

The rears are different between the two though.

This does get very confusing indeed Jason.
I'm sure though on the 8th gen all suspension components are the same through out the range so it makes life a lot easier.

Job done!

The Meyle saloon front drop links were actually around 10mm longer than the original ones fitted to my car, but that didn't make them any more difficult to fit and I honestly can't see that this could cause any problem or handling issue whatsoever. I had to buy a pair of drop links, so I did both sides even though only my right hand one was broken. The left hand one fell apart while I was removing it, though.

Worst part of the job was removing the old drop links... the nuts were well seized and I couldn't get my 4mm allen key into the slot to stop the ball joint rotating while undoing the nut. So I simply pulled the drop links to pieces and used mole-grips to hold the joint while I slowly got the nuts off, after heating with a blowlamp (careful of the CV gaitor while doing this!) . Fitting the new ones was a piece of cake, really.

Car drive fine, but the biggest improvement I notice is that the front now sits more level... previously (with the broken right hand link) the right hand side sat much lower than the left. It is still a little lower, but not as worryingly as it was.

I took a whole bunch of photos while doing the job and will post these whenever I become able to paste in links to my posts.

Great job John /Alan is looking into the link problems

Jon I've used aftermarket ones on all our Hondas without issue..

I decided to get the Meyle HD as well in the end, got them from All German Parts as cheaper than ebay?

Compared to the ones I took off (not genuine) they are really chunky and should last well hopefully. If I they do I'll get them for the rear when they go.

As Jon said above just whack the link off the ball joint and use mole grips to hold it still while undoing the nut. The threads were very rusty so it can be hard work and it might be easier to undo them so far and then use a dremel to cut through the bolt.
