accord 2.2cdti
Hey guys im new on here and have been having problems with my 04 accord diesel. Basically it started a month ago, when i started the car engine management light was on and the car was in limp mode, took it to get the fault code read, and it showed fault P1784, changed the heater plugs and relay, problem was still happening for a few days then stopped. About a week later started car and management light on and car in limp mode. If i let the car heat up and turn it of, comes out of limp mode and light stays on, if i turn car of and on a few times the management light goes of and the cars runs normal. Had fault checked again and now showing Fuel rail pressure to low. So got the car serviced and changed the fuel filter used genuine parts and problem is still there. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

This problem can persist even after a ff swap. Keep priming the system and see if it clears. Run a search as there are myriad walkthroughs and explanations.

Pop over to the newbie section and introduce yourself as well eh ;). Welcome to TA.

have tried priming and the problem just doesnt seem to get any better, have had a few mechanics look at it and they all think different things. the latest guy is suggesting the fuel pump could be the problem, but im not convinced.

Welcome along Glen,

As Dan says there could still be some air in the system.

At the back of the engine bay near the top you should see what looks like a black rubber ball, you need to squeeze this numerous times until it is solid (relatively)

Start the engine and increase the revs to say just under 2k and hold for 2 to 3 minutes

Let the car idle and check whether it idles erratically or is steady.

If slightly erratic (or the revs dip significantly) before returning to idle then switch engine off and repeat the process.

If idling steady then take the car for a shortish drive and see how it is in the morning.

In respect of the P1784 code, did you take it to a dealer or independent ?

Also who changed the filter and was it genuine?

To follow up my previous post (sorry was in the bath); this problem can come back repeatedly - and as with domestic plumbing, air can be a complete a7se to shift in some systems. My underlings still underestimate the problems with air. Does my head in.

the code 1784 was picked up by an independent. the filter was a genuine bosch filter from local honda dealer, and again was fitted by independent mechanic who works mainly with honda cars

hi again guys, still having this same problem with my accord. Took it to my local honda dealer and they put it on the computer and told me the fuel filter was the problem, advised me to change it. so changed filter again and took it back today and the fault code was cleared. tried the car tonight again and fault is there again, have primed and bled the filter at least 10 times now and still the car goes into limp mode on startup.
will the car need to go back to have the code cleared again or should it clear itself?

It should clear itself bud. Mine does this almost everytime the tank runs low. Top if up and away it goss.

With an obd reader can you measure the realtime fuel rail pressure?

this problem just wont go in my car, it has happened twice after filling with diesel just as you have said. It is just so annoying and im afraid something else is wrong as it has been happening for so long
It was my local dealer who checked the car this time and they didnt say what the pressure reading was, just told me it was the filter and it needed replacing

Who has actually replaced the filter as you mentioned the filter was replaced and then the Honda dealer advised that the filter needed to be replaced again?

Are the symptoms you are currently suffering after the second filter, the same as before or slightly improved?

What is the actual code of the fault?

The filter was replaced by my mechanic the first time and when it went to honda they told me the fuel filter was fitted the wrong way round, so i went home and replaced the filter with a genuine honda filter myself.
Im having the same problems with the 2nd filter as i had with the first and the car goes into limp mode when the ignition is turned on. When i took the car back to honda after fitting the new filter they cleared the fault code and told me the car was ok, when i left the car a while and tried starting the problem was there again, so i tried priming and bleeding the filter and the problem is still there today.
They didnt tell me the actual fault code just that it was fuel rail pressure to low.
is there anything else that can cause this fault?

just a quick note on my car guys, finally got it sorted, replaced filter myself and the low fuel pressure fault disappeared, to be replaced by the glow plug fault again. took the car to local honda guys and talked to
a mechanic and he advised fitting new heater plugs. they done the work and replaced plugs and problem now solved, cost £180 but it soved my problems. It taught me a good lesson, only use genuine honda parts
on my car, a bit more expensive but defo worth it.
