I'm having a recurring nightmare with flat battery issues.
Had a problem while driving car about 9 months ago when it wasn't charging. Had to jump start it from another car, then driving home dash was throwing every fault light available. Took it to local garage and they replaced the alternator and the battery. All good.

About 3 months later, battery went flat again. Thought is might've been too many short journeys so charged it and it was ok for a day or so then went flat again. Took it back to garage, they said the alternator to battery lead was corroded, cleaned it and remade the terminal connections. All good.

Now it's doing it again. No battery light illuminated on dash, but battery goes flat after a few days of driving. Borrowed a multimeter to check voltage with engine running, but it just varies between 12.3v and 14.2v. one minute it seems to be charging, next it isn't.
Voltage drop from alternator output compared to +ve battery terminal is 0.5v, which is apparently ok.

Could this be the ELD faulty? I've read about it online but don't seem to be able to establish any particular symptoms to look for, and all the stuff about it is USA based so I'm not sure I've even got an ELD. Worth changing it anyway?
Help gratefully received

well, looking at the wiring diagram in the ESM, the ELD's function looks to be(true to its name) detecting electric load and then signaling the ecm to trigger charging signal if conditions are met
it's worth a shot, hopefully it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. ESM states it is integral to the fuse box ***embly but I'm sure you can pry it out and find a part number on there.

There is a well known issue with the 7th gen related to the factory Bluetooth kit which causes a parasitic battery drain. Just locate the module and disconnect it.

Yeah I know that one, and I disconnected the Bluetooth module years ago.

But this isn't a parasitic drain issue anyway. It will start after being stood for several days. It just isn't charging some of the time.

I would have your battery tested with a proper tester that checks for battery cell health. If that checks out then replace the alternator again. It may have a faulty clutch.

I think I'm going to try replacing the alternator.

The new one that went on it is an aftermarket one, which can apparently cause issues, can anyone tell me the brand and model number of the OE alternator so I can search for one?

I replaced my alternator for one of these sometime last year, and have had no problems.

The only difference is the supplied pulley is slightly smaller in diameter than the original that makes the serpentine belt pass very close between two of the runs.
