2007 type s accord
Hi. I'm new to forums and new to honda's but i'm looking at swapping out the engine in my 2007 accord. its got the k20z2 engine in it and i'm really struggling about how to get more power out of it as tunning pars are hard to find. I've looked into boosting it and i think i have enough info on it but i dont really want to compromise the reliabillity of it. So now im looking at doing an engine swap and putting the k20a out of the euro r in it but i need some info if anyone can help. right i know the k engines are pretty much the same apart from the internals and obviously the map so what i need to know is are the wiring harness's the same or is this something else i would need to change. i was thinking of going with a piggy back ecu to solve the problem wih the swapping out the ecu and having immobiliser problems. i will be getting the engine with all sensors but wil my harness be able to plug straight into them............ has anyone done this or has anyone tuned there k20z2...
thanks for having a look and your help would be greatly appriciated................ :)

Welcome mate, sounds like a great project. Sure someone will give you help on this one. ;)

Welcome. That does sound like a big undertaking man. Sourcing a K20 from a Euro R could be hard to find, cost lots of money and take a long time to sort out. I think you might be able to tune your K20 to similar standards at probably relative cost, but you could do it at your own convenience as and when the money was available as opposed to forking out one lump sum.

For example, you can quite easily address the car's breathing with intake manifold, cold air intake, outlet manifold, sports exhaust and sports cat. Then you can upgrade to different after market cam rods with more aggressively angled cam nodes. Address the ECU to accommodate your upgrades and it will be stonking.

But if you're going for a Euro R style drive, you'll want to also address the ride, as the Euro R is as much (if not more) about handling as it is power. Get the car lowered on coil overs, maybe some chassis bracing and after market roll bars. Then a limited slip diff for making sure the car stays on rails through the corners.

Anyway, before you go any further, have a read of Hondata's articles on tuning K series engines.

Edit: Just re-read your post man. Sounds like you've got the engine lined up already? You really need to be getting it's ECU too whenever you swap an engine that isn't a like for like swap. Your current ECU map won't know what to do with the new engine's different hardware setup (different cams etc) and will likely just freak out and throw it into limp mode, if it even starts the engine at all  .

Try and get the ECU and harness with the Euro R engine, then swap the whole lot. If you can't do this, you'll need an ECU remap based on the Euro R setup. For this, the tuners would likely need to know the base map for the Euro R and upload that to your ECU or give you a tune that's based on the Euro R map. I doubt they could just fashion one without running extensive tests first.

I think for the sake of simplicity, get that ECU and harness with the engine. Without it I can foresee a number of stumbling blocks.

I'd go for that too if you can get it. ;)
If you have the space, try to test the whole lot "on the bench" first, then stick it in the car. :)
If you do get the old harness, then you can also make a comparison ...yeah I know, "comparison" could be like comparing two plates of spaghetti

Alot of effort and money needed as I'm nealry sure you'll need the transmission aswell. Best bet is to buy a Euro r :)

I have a cl7 euro R and in all gonesty you are better off getting a Euro R.

However most things are possible with enough time and money. I think the 2.4 Type S is the best starting point. I know of hybrid civic that has been converted to a FD2 Type R setup. Still isn't a FD2 Type R though!

Here is someone on Hondas On Track modifying a Type S to make more power. 260 - 280 bhp with lots of torque? I do wonder what my euro R would be like with a 2.4 bottom end...... but aint going to happen anytime soon.

I would suggest, if you have your heart set on the additional power, sell your current car, put the money with the money you were going to spend on the conversion, and just buy a euro r. You won't regret it and this way, for similar money, you'll get the lsd, suspension and interior!

Plus added JDM-Y0 points :)
