Cold starting issue 2.2 cdti

Hi all,

First time posting here, I have the exact same issue with my accord. Was there a solution to this problem?
Like the original poster, i've changed the glow plugs and relay, battery is fine, no fault codes showing anymore so i'm completley lost now.

Any help greatfully appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi all,
My car had exactly the issue described in this thread. The longer it was parked the harder it was to start. It gradually worsened until when parked for several days it would turn over and over until flat. However, once it started it was fine on restart and warm/hot starts were also fine. Tried heater plugs to no avail. Turned out one of the injectors was passing far too much diesel to the leak off pipe. See the the photos showing one injector passing 10x more than others. This meant the fuel rail was losing pressure while the car was parked. Got the injector repaired at specialists for 100 quid and this was a definitive fix! Starts instantly now.

I have the same problem.

The car has been sluggish to start from cold for a few months, it takes that extra second to get going. I have serviced it, including new fuel filter.
The battery and alternator are fine.
Once warm, it starts up fine.
First cold morning of the season and it didn't crank.

I called the rescue services, they got it started but noted the sluggish crank. He suggested it could be the starter motor or glow plugs. I'll report back what the issue might be, I'll get the garage to check the injectors to see if too much fuel is passing into the leak-off pipe.

Thanks.
I found a DIY video for changing glow plugs.

Anyone know which size wrench I need to loosen the bolts on the glow plugs?

Without taking the lid off the engine, I think the main threaded part is a 12 mm ring spanner, and the electrical connection on the top is a 10mm nut.

I had the glow plugs changed. The tips were white crusty. The car still started lazily, so I changed the RAC battery to a Bosch one, starts perfectly now.

I've had same issue No.2 injector was leaking badly causing NO start after engine was off for a few hours (worse when gets colder over night)
p.s i was not that lucky as damaged the camshaft cover while getting the "bad boy" out.. other 3 out now..but still need recutting the seats + rethreading the clamping bolt holes which seized up completely) IF A NEW THAT LAST WEEK I WOULD SCRAP THE CAR, now it's too late as most parts being ordered((
