I have had my V6 for two and a half years. It's a silver 1999 'T' with 105k and in good nick. Huge wad of service history, 4 good Michelin Premacy HPs, new Honda battery and entire new cat back OEM exhaust last year. The only problem I have had with it other than consumables was a hot starting issue, which was resolved by buying a new main relay from Holdcroft. The headlight washers have stopped working (relay clicks but no pump action!) and the drivers seatbelt is slow to retract but that's literally it in terms of problems and as ever it sailed through the MOT, next due in March 2015!

In essence it is a great car with a lovely smooth engine and it really is a testament to Honda engineering. It is also nice to own something rare and distinctive and in my opinion a shape that has aged well.

But, and here's the but, I fancy a change. With the kids growing fast, 4 doors would be good and I have set my heart on a facelift Saab 9-5 Aero estate as a family wagon.

The dilemma is the V6 is simultaneously a great, reliable car but one that has very little value! Selling it for potentially an insultingly low value given the lack of demand for them, stretches even my most manly of man maths and seems foolish. I find myself sometimes wishing it would go bang just so I can justify the change!

Has anyone else faced a similar dilemma?

None of my cars really hold enough monetary value to really warrant selling them when you consider what they are like to drive and enjoy :( so I just keep them when I buy new cars

Can you not keep the V6 as a second car? I have my cars on admiral multicar and it's really reasonable :)

Hiya

Must admit I'm finding it difficult to move on. A part of me wants something new but the more sensible side of me knows this is a damn good car of which is simply irreplaceable all things considered. About the only time I've every seriously considered selling it is if my job situation changed and I was forced down the route of diesel which has nearly happened once or twice. Seriously, I think the only thing that you aren't going to regret buying is a newer Accord!

To be honest, I could be wrong, but I think your running costs would go up quite a bit if you bought a Saab 9-5. I like this car a lot too but can only see ££££'s being emptied from my wallet.

Cheers

I would say if you have a multicar policy and its fairly inexpensive to insure then its not worth selling, if I had the space and money I would have a lot more than 2 cars.

We could park at least four cars on our drive! But we don really want a bigger fleet - the wife has her car and I have mine. Good suggestion though thanks. I have to weigh up the you-only-live-once vs acceptable running costs given kids balance.

Agree running multiple cars can soon start draining your wallet. When I had my V8 Trans AM I also had a 1.6L Madza 323 as a runabout. Saved me fuel costs of course, but two sets of road tax, two sets of MOT, two sets of insurance. Soon adds up.
