Hi guys

I know nothing about cars so any advice would be much appreciated!

Holdcroft Honda diagnosed a cracked exhaust manifold but it is covered under a warranty.

I am looking for a loca garage to get it fixed at and I would like to know:

1. Is it a big job and therefore necessary that an experience mechanic does the work?

2. Can anybody recommend any good dealerships in Yorkshire for repairs?

Thanks

Welcome along mate. Its quite a big job if your in the warranty bracket let a Honda dealers do it for you.

Thanks for the reply.

I should have been clearer, I am definitely going to get the work done under warranty.

I am thinking how much I should worry about which dealers I take it to as some are better than others.

I drove all the way to Stoke to get the clutch done because I knew I would get a high standard of work, but would prefer to get this done locally.

Dude, if there is a Honda warranty, why look anywhere else?

If it was my car i would go to Holdcroft for any major works but that me.

Well u could take marshals york then let me no if there up t scratch before they do mine lol

Good idea...but you first! Lol...
 Saleem just go to HH you no your going to get a top job done so it takes the worry out of it.

I think he means which Honda dealership to use, for Yorkshire I would use Huddersfield Honda (Hepworth), definitely a first class Honda outfit.

Yep got you now the thread was quite confusing agree with Fahad hepworth is a quality dealers as well as hh

Just a quick question,

Will every Honda garage charge to have a look to see if there is a problem with the manifold?

I've got a very strong kind of a burning smell coming inside the car now, it started around 10-11 weeks ago slowly started to get worse.

This is dealers trying it on as there is no meter to test this
This is a smell and visual dynostic only.
Also because of the warranty you should be refunded if found faulty.
I had the same when my VSA went there was no charge because Honda found the code 66.1

They shouldn't really be charging for this but technically they are allowed to.. You could try Stratstone Bradford, or just ring around. Manifold is a routine job now for most Honda dealers.

Thats a 1st on me  that's wrong that technically they are allowed to.This shouldn't happen if there is a warranty on something it should be a no cost to the customer.

PS didn't mean your wrong Fahad as it might look like that  its the dealers im on about.

Well its an extended warranty which means that Honda would need to approve the claim after the dealer identifies thats the root cause. Technically the dealer doesn't get paid for doing the diagnosis.. but we all know it's a 30 second job to diagnose it which is what makes them charging £60 just to take a sniff a bit cheeky.

I think im in the wrong job what does that work out an hour the mind boggles

Try Barnsley Honda mate I've had no problems in the past with them, its worth a phone call...

Take to any dealer but ask to speak to the manager when you phone as all the staff are drilled on this diagnostic charge as Fahad as said before there is no diagnostic machine in the world that can pick this up. You will get the check free as they will get the warranty work if under the 125k good luck

Thanks for the advice guys. I rung Bradford as advised and they won't charge for the diagnostic but it would involve two trips as they say they would need to order it in (receive next day). I will give Barnsley a call tomorrow instead :)

I ended up taking it down to Barnsley Honda. I had to take it down for the diagnosis but they have picked it up for me and will drop it off today.

I have just had a call from them to say that the turbo is showing signs of wear. There would be no labour charge as they have already got it open and the part would cost a measly £1,800.

I said no.

Good to hear you got it done without any problems.

£1800, that must be one of them new gold plated turbos.

Guys
I reckon mine needs doing got the obvious smell in the car also under the bonnet and it's quite strong there. My car's out of the 7 year period by 6 months but within mileage limits. I've been in touch with Honda UK today and tried to go down the good will route! it's booked into Howards Honda tomorrow for the official diagnosis.

I didn't ask but I'll be a bit miffed if they charge me, apparently it's a 45min job to check it. So watch this space we'll see what happen unfortunately i just haven't got the time to go to HH.

Sorry to hear that Paul keep us updated mate.

Paul, go in with your uniform on ;)

F I don't work in the same area otherwise I would go in wearing my special discount uniform lol ONLY JOKING ;)

Well it's def gone and I'm sure the car's running rougher more lumpy and noisy during idle it's got that diesel rattle which was never their before. I thought it had been but thought it could have been down to the 105k on the clock, then a friend from work randomly commentated on it a few days ago and he's heard my car running before. This seemed to confirm it to me. Howards didn't charge me anything for the diagnosis they didn't even mention it which is good. They've got my case number given by H UK and will call them today to see where we can go.

Fingers crossed they may even pay the whole thing.

Fingers crossed officer

Well the fingers must have been tightly crossed Honda have agreed to pay for the part I'll pay the labour which is less than the cost of the part :D

I have to say that Howards Honda in Weston Super mare have been brill went to see them yesterday, they booked it in for diagnosis today, everything went smoothley with that bit, They called me back as promised and I'm getting it fixed on friday with a loan car from them FOC. Apart from the initial contact with H UK they've done all the work.

Looking foward to a smell free car, and we're doing a lot of travelling over christmas so for them to do it on friday is a bonus.
