Dash illumination

Ok so i just picked up a 04 Touring 2.4 Executive on lpg .
Dash lights up just not very bright and cant read mileage/trip.
Does not look like there are any bulbs to replace as i would have expected.
So where do we go from here ?

You know the button you push down to reset the trip counter... Did you try twisting it? That's a dimmer switch for the dash lights. Normally the dimming is only in effect if the lights are on however and I see in your photo the lights aren't on, but your dash is super dim... But maybe there's a problem that's related to the dash brightness adjustment?

Steve,yes i have played with the dimming knob that emits the console,it does dim and go the other way and its what you see in the picture.and no effect to any illumination of the mileage/trip

Hmmm... It could be all the light is from one tiny bulb and it's distributed by fiberoptic lines? Perhaps it's on the other side of the circuit board or under the metal bit.

There are no "bulbs" only LEDs on that. However LEDs don't burn out like a bulb. If it's dim, it is more than likely that the potentiometer is reducing power too low... not a separate part though

Ah i see jason,so if a second hand unit was acquired,would it simply plug straight in or are they linked to the car ?

Surely you can change the pot? I know it's a little different, but I've changed hundreds of pots on music gear. Can't be that different can it?

or even spray some switch cleaner into the pot (but be careful not to get it all over the place because it is conductive)

You would only need to adjust the milage on the clock. The units are not coded to the car, but the mileage is held within the unit itself. It's pretty straightforward to adjust if you have the right equipment (HDS or similar)

Yep, you can. It all depends on how hand you are at soldering. Personally, I'd give it a go, but it all depends on the OP

Thanks Jason,think i will go with a second hand cluster then,not that expensive second hand and i may get a lower mileage
