Hi all
As some of you know on Thursday I got my faulty cat and flexi pipe removed for a straight through pipe and a new flexi pipe! Then came the problem...........

...........check engine light! Driving around the same night and the yellow check engine light came on. So I went home and rang Crown Honda Hendon to get it checked out. Took it to them yesterday morning (got a lovely jazz courtesy car, automatic with...........7 gears!!!!) and when to uni. Drove back to Honda after uni for them to tell me that the wiring loom has been cut and stripped back??!! So they cannot identify the error code as the diagnostics machine can't read it due to the wiring issue with my car.

They said that it is most likely due to the de-cat and gave me some more worrying news. They said that due to the decat and failure to remap the ecu the car could be running too lean or rich which could cause damage. They advised for a cat to be put back on asap. I called Mohammad (suffy/ukaccord) and Fahad to find out about remapping, to which I was informed it is too expensive and not really worth it.

I then called the exhaust place (profusion customs - awesome place near heathrow ask for Raj tell him Hamid sent you he will sort you out) and they said they can put a sports cat on and reset the error code so the light goes off!

Anywayssssss my main question is, with a sports cat will everything regarding the engine be okay again? Or better? Or do I have to have a OEM cat? My thinking is that aslong as the sensor recognises a cat it should be okay and the engine shouldn't have too much of a problem? Or am I wrong?

Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated :)

you can get a o2 simulator how easy and reliable to set up I don't know. You car will be running on base parameters if no senor/faulty which will most likely be rich to safeguard the engine and will throw a warning light too.

Thanks, what do you think regarding a sports cat compared to the OEM one? It works out better for me overall to have a sports cat but no point if the engine will get damaged

It shouldn't be too difficult to have the loom patched, possibly using a section from a breakers? Then you'll need to 'fool' the 2nd/secondary/post-cat sensor into giving an offset reading... you need this type of thing - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/O2-Oxygen-lambda-Sensor-spacer-Isolators-extender-De-cat-short-Fits-all-/180993526470?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a240e0ac6 ...but get the right one for your car.

I edited this post when I realised you'd had the loom hacked! They sound like a right bunch of butchers... Is taking it back and complaining about this out of the question?

Thanks for your reply mate.
I think you mis read my post or I worded it incorrectly! The exhaust place have NOT touched the wiring loom. They just de-cat my exhaust! Honda said that they have found that the loom has been cut and stripped back which could have been caused from when I was away. This is because the car was stationary for a whole month and they believe it to be a rat or animal of some sort that has gone and cut the wires, similar to what happened with my friends car.

I have nothing but positive feedback about profusion customs, from start to finish and the little bits in between they have been superb and raj has made everything so simple. I am going back on Friday to have the sports cat installed and for him to have a look at the wiring loom

OK then, my bad!
But the first paragraph of my post still stands if you decide not to have a cat installed, as you will need to fool the 2nd sensor so the ECU works OK. Good luck with it all!

Thanks mate. Well I am booked in for a sports cat on Friday and he says depending on the light he will sort out the sensor to fool it etc! But I told him that I'm not paying till the lights gone off so I know it's been a good job!

Don't know if it is the same on your 7G, but n the ATR f the decat pipe doesn't have a spacer for the o2 sensor, it throws up an EML error code.

Basically it takes the sensor out of the direct flow of the exhaust, something like this -

What Price did they give you mate if you dont mind me asking for your sports cat and what price on the D-cat.

Hope you get it all sorteed to buddy.

Cheers

Thanks mate looking forward to Friday :)

I'm taking out the silencer on Friday :) see how it sounds
Very boomy inside!! You will have to say goodbye to quiet cruising so get ready to tune up your amp;)

Haha is it going to be that loud? Just taking the silencer out? It will be sports cat then straight through to the standard back box? What you think?

My decat had a spacer as well....takes the o2 sensor out of direct flow of the gases.

Its only a ten minute job lol

^^^^^lol.....its worth it though, after my last MOT i thought i'd leave the cat in for a while as the noise with decat was getting to me,but the car just didnt drive the same, didnt have the throttle response that it does with the decat.

Yeah this car now feels like an animal! Literally noticeable difference! But tomorrow I am having a sports cat fitted so it might be tamed slightly! However the silencer is getting taken out but then I'm keeping the standard back box on it! Hopefully it sounds good! With a decat it's very high pitched, I'm wanting it to be a bit more throaty! So silencer is going! Trial and error lol

This was before i had the the typhoon fitted, standard cat back, vtecdirect manifold and solid fabs decat.

That is quality mate! Were you from?
How do you think a stock car with a sports cat and the silencer removed with a straight pipe will sound? I'm not going to get a typhoon kit yet but might do in the near future

I live about 10mile south of Norwich, hard to say what it will sound like, the cats take a lot of noise out of the exhaust,on the ATR most of the noise is drowned out by induction noise.
I borrowed a decibel meter from work and mine is well under "legal" limit.

Well I guess it's a trial and error situation lol! I'm either going to love it or hate it! I just want to be able to hear the vtec crossover!

Your car sounds lovely mate! The colour red is really starting to grow on me

Wow! That vid is insane. The wheel spin at 4K revs and the kick from the VTEC after that. Insane! I want one  .

My K24 is nothing near that :(
