Hi all

Honda Accord 2005 2.0 AUTO
My manual for petrol engine states premium grade detergent oil API SJ SL
My car has 113,000 miles would it be safe to get the detergent oil? will it cause the seals to leak?
I currently use 5w-30 and non synthetic oil and didnt have any leaks

thanks all

It won't cause leaks, but what you have to be careful of is deposits in the engine getting dislodged and then possibly blocking a small oilway.

I guess part of the answer lies in how it has been treat and serviced in the past, and how you intend to look after it in the future?
Regular oil changes with a good quality oil are one of the best things you can do for any engine.

I would use 5w30 fully synthetic personally and change every 6.5 k

5w-30, wouldnt 5w-40 protect better during summer and for city driving?
what do you think advantage of 5w-30 is?

thanks again

5w-30 has a lower running viscosity and will therefore cause less drag on the oil pump which, in turn, will result in better fuel economy.

many thanks, would 5w-40 protect the engine better then 5w-30 city driving?
fuel efficient benefits of 5w-30 would be small %

It's those small improvements that manufacturers like to boast about!

In general, heavier grade oils do give better lubrication.
