Accord 2.4 ex
Hi,

I'm new to here. I've had a 7th gen Accord 2.4 Ex (black with penta alloys (which I've had resprayed graphite) for about 9 months now. I do quite a lot of miles and after a succession of Audis, VWs and Volvos I bought an Accord. A couple of years ago we changed the Mrs car to get an FRV...so practical, clever and brilliant engineering.....hence the Accord. I've loved every moment of the car so far especially the reliability and lot's of kit.

Now to the little problem; I've found that the door cards buzz when I'm on the motorway and turn the stereo up. The bass makes them buzz; both doors. If I press on the drivers one about 2/3 of the way up, the buzzing quietens. Is this a known problem and is there an easy fix? I'm thinking that sound deadening behind the door might help, but are there certain places it has to be put, or does the whole door have to be covered in deflex type material?

The second thing is I'm thinking that the factory speakers might be better upgraded. What would you recommend and what size are they? I was spoilt in my last Volvo as it had an upgraded Dynaudio system that was amazing.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking forward to years of Honda pleasure and already sure that an 8th gen will be the replacement in the future.....

Wow! You wanna upgrade the sound system. I love it. I suppose the highs could be more sparkly, but that's being picky. I don't like the bass so heavy it drowns out everything else, so in that respect I find this system spot on. Anyway, I have the same car, and sometime notice a slight vibration of the door trim when the music's cranked. I also find my driver side tweeter sometimes crunches on certain frequencies, but again, only when cranked. I put it down to things getting a little looser over the years as a result of vibration. Not sure if this is a common thing though. I should imagine it's been covered somewhere on the site.

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I like the sound system, just I'm picky and think the woofers could do with upgrading (and have been spoilt by Volvo systems). My car is 07 and pretty mint, so shouldn't rattle. I'll only upgrade if it can be done easily and relatively cheaply. Other than that, it's an ace car..... :)

Unfortunately the accord does suffer from rattles. You could try removing the door cards and running some expanding foam tape around the door card and seeing if that solves your issue. As for improving the sound you will be spending a lot of money to get it anywhere near the quality of Volvo's systems. And to be honest the mids in the doors are ok anyway. If it is better bass you are after i would suggest replacing the 6x9 bass speakers on the shelf (***uming you have a saloon). This is a cheap and fairly effective upgrade.

Thanks. Yes it's a saloon; I'd wondered about that as when I fade the sound to that rear.....they sound light weight. And I guess an easy upgrade. Can you recommend any makes? I'll try the foam tape.....a job for a dry day. Are the door cards easy to remove?
