04 CTDI TOURER
Hi all

recently had new discs and pads on the rear of my 04 CTDI Tourer - bit of a stink a few days later so mechanic has taken caliper off, cleaned and lubed it and stuck it back on.

Smell is back and the wheel and disc are red hot after a journey!
Have tried parking on a gentle hill and handbrake not binding and doesnt seem like the brakes are binding either as the car is rolling away - mechanic checked the handbrake shoes werent stuck etc etc

No obvious signs of any leaks and i think the caliper is the original- (170k later)- could the piston simply be pushing the pad onto the disc when driving? no evidence of binding.

time for a new caliper?

help!

Mate this is common. do a search.

I'm not sure if the Tourer is the same set up on the rear calipers as the saloon but there are slots on the brake piston that line up with a raised notch on the back of the brake pad . If there not lined up chances are the pads will rub just enough to build up a fair amount of heat. I'm sure someone will be along later and confirm whether they are the same or not.

The tourer has a different set up to the saloon mate and binding brakes is unfortunately a fairly common fault on the tourer.

It gets you in the end man, tourer or saloon. Had my off side go in October and think my near side is in the process of beginning just this weekend. Do very short journeys only until you get your brake hose and pistons replaced. Get it done ASAP otherwise you'll ruin your discs and pads and the job spirals in cost.

Thanks guys

sorry for the delay in replying

ended up with a recon caliper from Carparts4less. £65 + surcharge. Got hose from Honda dealer to be on the safe side and has solved the problem!!

cheers

I really should get mine done, what did you buy? Was it this one or this one? I don't understand the difference.

Awesome, might order one then, and I guess the hose from HH? What do I ask for? Rear offside tourer brake caliper hose thingy?

Hi mate

Yes it was the first one- pretty good deal I thought. I went to local Honda dealer and ordered an OEM rear brake hose too which I got for £29.

So far, so good!!!

I'm sure I looked up that hose before on Lings and it was like £12.

Keep an eye on the other one...that might go at some point....both of my rear calipers had to be changed within months of each other...a complete pain in the #####!

I was just quoted £53.11 each from my local Honda dealer for Tourer rear hoses! They said that there is also a wait of up to 4 weeks while they obtain stock!

I've got some tourer hoses you can buy. I advertised them in the classifieds.

Here's the link but not sure if you'll be able to see it as it's in the for sale section and I don't think your post count is high enough. I think you've only got another 7 or 13 posts to go though.

The advert is from October and I will need to refind the hoses, they're here somewhere!

I had this issue on front brake on my 1997 Alfa 155. Found out after shelling out for exchange caliper. Wasn't happy. Went breakers and got break hose for nothing as long wait from Alfa. Still have the brand new parts in my loft lol. Should look at selling them really
