EGR de-coke

Decided to de-coke my EGR system this morning by following this guide http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/22365-egr-valve-removal-clean/ but soon realised mine was different as my valve is at the other end of the cooler!

Mines a 2004 so is this a pre and post face lift difference?

Went ahead anyway and cleaned what I could from the link pipe and inlet manifold but realised I need to do the job properly and remove the whole manifold and get it cleaned out so job for another day.

Yes yours is the original N22A1 with electronic egr. Ideally you want to remove the inlet manifold and throughly clean out and ensure the intake flap is moving freely.

The egr is actually on the side of the block.

The pipe on the front is just the bypass pipe.

Also think about permanently removing the egr after all this, it will feel amazing.

Not only is all the grot in the manifold, it'll be up the back of the swirl flap, and lining all the intake side of the cylinder head and the backs of the valves.

Manifold off, remove what you can and then get the EGR mapped out to stop it sucking on its own exhaust.
The gain in driveavility and response you get from the remap softens the blow of the cost.

First question what's the cost?

Second question what would happen if blocked the EGR without a remap? If there's no mass flow measurement of the EGR then surely the ECU won't know the EGR is not getting through?

Also what's the default position of the EGR valve if you disconnect the power? Open or closed?

You need to speak to Fahad about cost.

From what I understand, just blanking the EGR or disconnecting it will cause the car to throw up a light, and possibly enter limp mode too.

The egr is commanded from ecu maps, and the map and maf sensors work in tandem to request Maf and egr.

Blanking it without correctly recalibration the maps will therefore throw it into limp mode.
