Hi all, This is my first post :)

I've noticed the engine when cold can sometimes sound louder and less refined not unlike a transit van

Its a 2006 I CTDi facelift 174000 miles FSH. I occasionally get an engine light on with error p2004 which I have cleared three times.

I think it gets better when at normal op temp but not really driven it that much as yet, are these two things related?

From what I've read on the forum the p2004 relates to the frequency solenoid valve but would this sticking cause the engine to alter its sound

PS I have owned the car for two weeks

Mine used to start off quiet and then get louder as it warmed up...

I think you might need to hear another to draw a proper comparison, but some additional noise when the engine is cold is normal.. but it should never sound like a transit van.

Ok well maybe a transit van is a bit harsh but it does noticeably change engine "note".
