Hi Guys

My diesel has done 110K and I hav started getting exhaust fumes inside the car. My neighbour noticed a slight P*** of smoke coming from the manifold area when I started the engine the other day.

Firstly, how long is the manifold U/G if at all.

If it is not U/G then I will do it myself. Has anyone out there taken the manifold of and if so can it be done without taking the engine out.

Any tips and help would be greatly apreciated.

Regards

Hi, I had the same problem, which reading the forum is a very common fault that Honda have actually addressed by extending the warranty to 7 years/120000 miles, so if your car falls into this bracket then your first call HAS to be your dealer.
If like me you are out of warranty then member FA6AD has a very good mechanic mate called Rash who sorted mine out no problem.
They can be welded, but it is a big job to get it off.

Have a read hear ;)

Hi

Thanks for coming back to me guys.

I contacted Honda Customer relations in their new setup in Bulgaria this morning and the woman I spoke with has agreed it should be a U/G job but to contact my local Honda garage. Did this and they seem to agree with you all (phew- saved a few quid hopefully) I have arranged for it to go in. Should be about three days in all by the time they have got the part from Honda. Lets hope it pans out ok. If it does it will be the first bit of luck I have had with this car!!

Whilst writing, I have also got an off-side drive shaft problem. Does anyone know if this also is covered by extended warranty. I have read a lot about this also being a weak point for the car.

I will let you know how I get on with the manifold.

Hi
I said I would let you know how I got on with the Manifold replacement.

Well - I took the car in as arranged down here in the New Forest and for some reason they had an exhaust manifold sitting on the shelf so they only had the car for a day. When I picked the car up and made sure that ther were no problems I drove of and straight home. When I got home I noticed a hot smell of rubber. I lifted the bonnet and checked the radiator and found that the so called technician had not toped up the radiator after having drained it to drop the turbo.

I put over three litres of water it!!!!!!

When I telephoned the service guy he firstly suggested that it must have been a problem before I took it in to them and as that ply didn't work then suggetsed that there must have been an air lock.

Not worth arguing with so I took the car back in the next day and spoke with the Service manager who got another guy to give it the once over. All is OK thankfully but I could just have been a little old lady who wouldn't dream of checking the work and found herself with a blown engine which she couldn't proove was not here fault.

All in all I recon very shody workmanship. The service manager was helpful about it all and did say that they don't normally have problems. I wonder!!

I was going to get them to do the drive shaft but I just don't have the confidence in them now given such a fundimental mistake. I would add someone had taken the car out for a four mile ride so they should have noticed what I did.

Anyway enought of my rant - thank you again guys for suggesting it was a U/G job. It is a pitty that the drive shaft isn't. I understand that that also is a weak point on the car.

Glad it's all sorted, but gotta agree - that is shocking behaviour by the dealer.

Hey Chesjak, glad your car is in good working order. I live in the New Forest and was wondering which dealer you used so I know who to avoid?
