Hi all, new here.

Just bought a 54 plate ctdi sport. Love it. Got some bits and pieces on order already (wheels and tuning).
My question is, will a 2.4 type s twin exit exhaust be ok running with the ctdi engine? I know its not a direct fit, but i have access to a ramp and a hot axe and mig, meaning i can make it fit easy enough. My question really relates to the back pressure. If back pressure is an issue using a petrol exhaust, can i cut some dquares from the box and remove the contents of the backbox and weld it back up?
I know a custom exhaust is ideal, but my wallet isnt ready for that and i have a type s system available to me cheap.
Thanks guys.

Come again?
Because the exhaust on a type s looks far better than just seeing a downturned pipe hiding under the bumper :)

Not sure really. ***uming there will be no problems as you have two exits but i'm sure someone can confirm.

Fahad had a custom system built for his Accord and i know that ran spot on.

Yeah i know custom is the way forward but cant afford £400+ at the moment. May wait and save some pennies but as i can get a tein exit for free just thought it could be an option.

Someone asked this question a few months back. I cannot remember the outcome but it should be easy enough to find the thread. Often a petrol exhaust works fine on a diesel car.

there's few guys on polish forum who has 2.4 exhaust fitted to 2.2 and no has no issues with that ;)

Go careful!
No need for that, I'm not that stereotype at all, I just like a car to look right, I'm not into chrome wheels, lowering, big stereo etc etc, I'm a business man with a family....

I expect he wishes he was in your boat with excess money to spend on his ride lol

Yeah, twin straight pipes do look a lot better. Don't go to too much trouble in minimising back pressure, as you'll run the risk of the turbo being over-driven and causing over-boosting in certain conditions.

Thanks, yes i dont want to minimise back pressure, I want to maintain it, but was told by skmeone that the twin pipes are designed for more back pressure?

Yeah me too, but petrols need more back pressure so i heard that the boxes may be more restricted. I shall give them a try and post results :)

Its not going to be as good as the original standard system, you will probably be able to make it fit but performance and economy is going to be affected and will be worse, I would also imagine that you will get a major increase in noise, and possibly cause damage to the engine/turbo. If you can live with this then get it on the ramp and start cutting, if not a custom exhaust is the way forward.

Thanks for the reply. Can you back up reasons why the engine and turbo along with performance and MPG will be worse please? Thanks

The relevant systems will have been optimised for the engine they were designed to operate with, in terms of flow, back pressure, silencing, and (nearer the manifold) catalytic conversion. If you alter any of these parameters you run the risk of rendering the system sub-optimal, but whether this will actually be noticeable is hard to predict!

put it this way, i am sure the engineers who put on twin pipes in the 2.4 had the mechanics, electrics and all that worked out and they did not just stick it on for aesthetics.

likewise i am sure the exhaust for the diesel is put on for optimal performance.

there is more to exhausts than meets the eye, i would also think your economy would be reduced it you did this mod.

I think they did do it for aesthetics on the 2.4, to a point anyway. Sure it's gotta shift more gas, but the twin outlet the way it is, is just Honda's way of shifting that gas as prettily as possible in my opinion. ;)
