Tourer Ex iCTDI
My Accord Tourer iCTDI went in for its annual service and MOT today and failed its MOT die to the above. The dealer has no idea what is causing the fault and thinks it may be to do with the tow bar electrics - the bracket and electrics were fitted by the dealer when I bought the car new from them They didn't have time to investigate further and didn't have a spare unit to try. It wasn't the bulb or a fuse. I spoke to a guy who fits towing brackets and he doesn't think that is the problem.

Anyone have any idea? I'm taking the car back next Tuesday for a retest, and repair, if I can't get it fixed beforehand.

if you have a 12v tester you need first test if there is power to the fog light wires at the back under the boot lid when the switch is on and then take things from there...

Ive fitted a few tow bars in my time some sockets have a small button in them so when you push the electric plug in for the lights on your trailer etc it cuts the fog light coming on on the car if the sockets got this setup it might be stuck in and cutting the power to the fog light ive come across this a few times.

Took my car to a tow bar specialist and the fog light works perfectly from the topw bar socket. It seems that the problem is in the wiring within the tailgate.

This will be the third problem I've had with tailgate wiring. The first was when the car was a few months old and kept blowing fuses. The cause was chafed wiring that had not been routed properly in the tailgate, thus causing a short. Second problem was a few years ago when I lost my sidelights, and a similar cause.

The car is going back to the dealer on Tuesday, when I hope they don't spend too much time finding the break as it could work out expensive in terms of hourly rates.

Have you checked for this point mentioned above:

Sounds like it could be that if the power is coming through the tow bar electrics correctly, just permanently switching off the power to the tailgate fog whether there's a tow bar plugged in or not.

No, it's not that as there is no switching arrangement on my tow bar wiring. It seems the problem is a break in the wiring close to the hinge on the tailgate. Constantly opening and closing the gate has eventually caused the wire to break.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Took my car in yesterday and had the problem fixed. When they disconnected the lead inside the car to the tow bar the fog light on the car worked. No fog light connection now on the caravan but I'm not worried as I never drive in fog. Indeed, I have never used the fog light on the car since I bought it.

I'm afraid I'm a fair weather caravanner.

Hmm my tourer failed it's mot today with a suspension bush failure....so new front lower wish bone, hope HH will ease the pain and not too expensive to fit....plus rear fog not working....bulb looks ok but doesn't work in the reversing light, but then when I put the reversing light bulb in the fog fitting the fog light still doesn't work

I went to the local Honda shop for a new bulb and rather annoyingly they gave me the wrong bulb argh....

Will pick up another from Halfords and see if that does the trick...checked the fuses and they look fine.....interestingly I also have a tow bar....had it for some time though and tbh haven't used much at all.....bit worried that sorting will be expensive....

EDIT: Ok so got a new bulb and still no fog light? May have to get a auto electrician.....any other tips?

It might be the switch gone when selecting reverse.
I'm not sure but worth a shot.
I will try and find out more and if the location is under the gear stick
