I recently bought a 2007 EX Tourer and everything was brilliant, apart from the reverse parking sensors not working.
The symptoms I was experiencing was a long continuous beep coming from the speaker after selecting reverse gear, which lasted for about 4 or 5 seconds. There was then a very quiet pulsing sound coming from the same speaker, however no further noise was made no matter how close or far I was to an object.
I went about searching the forum and such for fixes, and it became clear that parking sensors are not in stock on this car; they were fitted as an optional extra by dealers. This made it a bit hard to troubleshoot due to the lack of documented previous experiences, so I set off trying to troubleshoot it myself. Working parking sensors make a quiet whirring/clicking sound, so I identified which sensor was faulty. To do this, I turned on the ignition and put the car into reverse gear, went around to the back of the car, and cupped my ear against each sensor. Sensors #1, #3. #4 were all fine, but sensor #2 was silent. So, I followed some general advice online and sprayed WD-40 on and around the sensor to try and disperse any built-up moisture inside. However, it made no difference.
At this point, I wanted to rule out any issues with the control module, but I had no idea where it was located as there aren't any previous forum posts to go off. So I spent some time searching for it. I found it in the spare wheel compartment. To access it, follow these steps:
1. Open the spare wheel compartment.
2. Lift and remove the spare wheel.
3. Identify the control module seated between yourself and where the spare wheel sits.
4. Check the control module for loose connections
As you can see above, the third-from-the-top connector has become dislodged. I cleared the debris and replugged the connector, which fixed my issue. I hope this post helps anyone else who is having this problem in the future.
I have tried to learn more about this control module during my research, but there are barely any references to it on the internet. Thanks to Chat GPT, I managed to find a manual for a similar control module made by the same company. I've included links below if they'll help anyone.
