Found the problem! CLUTCH!

Man, that is seriously a word that begins with S ending with T!!! I had the gearbox die in my Golf. Refurbishment is likely to be more than getting one from a breakers. See if any 2.0 manuals are being broken (which they probably are) and have an ok gearbox (which they probably will).

You have a new clutch already, so if you can get the gearbox for not too much money, you could get the new box and clutch in and the car should feel great. Do you know what exactly in the gear box has failed? Is it related to the clutch failing?

Yeah I know 2014 is turning out to be a crap year so far.

Right is their any difference between the gearbox for 2.0 and 2.4 or even 2.2 diesel or are they all similar?

Next, if I find a good 6 speed box can it replace my 5 speed while I'm at it?

I'm going to call a lot of breakers to find one, do you know roughly what I should be expecting to pay? Breakers vs refurb?

The garage said that basically even when in gear the car will not stop if that makes sense. So basically imagine your pushing the car you would put it in neutral and drop the handbrake right? Well you can be in gear and push it all you like as it has to effect. He opened it up and showed me this thing that is moving that is not meant to be lol and said its due to the gear materials clogging up other gears causing a huge failure!

Just wanting people to confirm which gearboxes will fit mine. Maybe civic gearboxes I don't know :( but worth asking. I was under the impression that you can't fit a diesel due to the gearing situation but not sure about the 5 speed vs 6 speed! Also if anyone can find a salvaged honda accord can they point me in the right direction! Thank you, would have been ten fold worse had I not been a member of TA

Personally, I'd only start looking for alternative type of gearboxes as an act of desperation if/when you can't find any that exactly match the model you have. Even if people tell you they're the same, you may well find a small difference that takes a lot of time to sort out. That goes for 'upgrading' to a 6-speed, as well.

Good luck with the search, but I don't think you'll struggle.

Thanks Jon. So are their really that many salvaged accords out their? Why can't I seem to find them! Lol

I found one on eBay straight away. Search on 'accord gearbox' then tick 'car parts', then tick 'transmission & drivetrain'... top of the list is one for £130.

Like Steve did, I'd paste in a link for you... BUT I STILL CAN'T PASTE IN LINKS!!! :(

I've seen that one already jon but mine is the newer accord. A 2007 plate believe it or not! Will it work?

Sorry Hamid, I didn't look closely enough. Like I said, I would only look at ones that are the same model until you run out of options.

The Lings website will give you gearbox part numbers. If you use the Accord registration number DN54XAT, then you will get the part numbers for a pre-facelift 2.0 comfort model... at least you can then compare this to your registration number and see if the part numbers are the same. You will have to register at Lings Honda to do this, or get someone to do it for you... I would offer to do this for you but, as mentioned, I cannot paste links into my posts so you can see the results.

Do you know how to convert Lings part numbers to Honda part numbers? (useful for checking against parts at breakers)... I can explain if required.

If you could explain mate that would save me a lot of time!

I did find one but I cant post links either. 2007 45k miles 2.0 petrol manual so exactly like mine but half the mileage for £400 or nearest offer with free delivery! might give a lowball of £300! so expensive for these gearboxes mate, only reason im keeping the car is sentimental values as it was my first car hence knackered gearbox lol, but even when fixed I will keep it and get another car as I need to preserve this one.

Register yourself at lingshondaparts.com

Put your car reg in and find the gearbox ***emblies (which will show Lings, not Honda, part numbers)

Delete the 4 characters '_pfk' from the web address and hit enter... Honda part numbers are now displayed, which will be useful for checking if parts found at breakers are the correct parts for your car

Do the same again using DN54XAT as the registration to compare part numbers for pre-facelift models, then you'll know if gearbox ***emblies for pre-facelift cars being broken are likely to be the same as yours.

I hope this makes sense?

What exactly is wrong with the gearbox?? Sure you don't want a 2nd opinion? if the clutch is that worn then it wont move or stall, I've had that a few times... But not had a gearbox that has no drive, just doesn't make sense mate to me, if its the same in all gears, I'd say the clutch pressure plate & friction plate has goosed

Indeed, what is the problem with the box?

Doesn't make sense, clutch was slipping and getting worse then no drive, that is just a simple clutch worn out completely mate.. IMHO of course, and I've changed a lot of clutches/gearboxes when I was in the trade

Mutley can you please PM me your number so I can give you a call please, I'm only a youngen and want to explain what happened but would make for an essay on here mate

Mutley is what I would call a legend! Thank you for your time mate! Always nice to see a stupid kid in trouble but this chaps a classy one :)!

Got it booked in with someone else mate on Tuesday to have a look at it and inspect it! Now I just need to get it off the car

Sorry Jon, I have it booked with a few different people to inspect it to see if it is dead or not as what Mutley told me on the phone should not have busted the gearbox and I think me mechanic is trying to pull a fast one.

I might not be clued up about vehicle drivetrains but i know how to put a guy in hospital so let's hope that doesn't happen! For the mechanics sake -.-

That's more than a clue what do I get in return? :) can I touch your knob like I touched steves? Haha

Silver lining to this fiasco though is I am now insured on the mothers 7 series :) 4.4 V8 is a bit different to my beast! Although averaging 12MPG is not fun at all :(

Just a quick update lads, gearbox coming off in the morning ready for collection. Taking to two different mechanics to diagnose any problem and if so the severity. Will update as it goes along.

Also spoke with Gareth at HH and he is very keen to know what happened to it as it could maybe be a failure rather than me ripping it but we will find out.

I went to the garage after Uni today to take it to the new mechanic! Without even splitting it he's told be that the gearbox is absolutely FINE!!!!

He and this other guy put it into every gear and did something's I have no idea what but anyways he's telling me the mechanic is chatting s***!

So I then go back and rip into the guy and get my car packed up well as much as possible with driveshaft and intakes along with engine mounts etc all over the place and get it on a flatbed to a good garage!

On arrival car was unloaded and work began! Should be picking my baby up tomorrow morning as the guy is staying all night to do it! Customer service is impeccable. So in conclusion clutch is absolutely wasted! But the gearbox is totally fine! Still not holding my breathe but the lads saying 100% nothing wrong so let's hope :)!

I was going to say Hamid Honda gear boxes are normally very good on manuals.
I've not heard many failing with that kind of mileage
