Hi guys, seems I have another small issue with my 6th gen. When I go over small pot holes in the road there is a small dunk noise from the front of the car? Think it's coming from the drivers side. Feels almost like something is loose? Probably isn't but that's how it sounds! No problem with the steering though.
Can anyone a advise me on a starting point to check?
Thanks

Could be anti-roll bar bushes and/or drop links. That's very common on the 7th gen to need replacing.

You can probably see this with the wheel off, but this is what you are looking for.

Now it might still be attached, mine was clunking be visibly it looked ok. Pull on it hard, use a lever even and it will most likely come apart like this. The 4 dots on the end, on mine at least (3 of these) were broken it seemed to enable the droplink to break easier than the ones that were intact on the other side.

Thanks for the pic! Haven't been in the wheel arch to have a look yet, to be honest it won't be me doing it but I like to know what needs doing before I approach the mechanic. Less chance of them ripping me off if you sort of know what your talking about!
Judging by your pic they seem to be a bit fragile? Is this common on the 6th gen?
Thanks for your help. :)

They look fragile but don't know what sort of load goes through them. Droplinks going seem common on all older cars or even high milers I guess, just wear and tear, but I wouldn't worry about its an easy job.. The Honda OEM are £50 each, or you can go cheap I suppose - I've gone OEM on the front and EuroCarparts Lemforders on the rear for 25% of the price so time will tell. I do them myself so I can discount labour costs whereas you might want to consider them if going cheap.

I'm just writing up the Howto just now, only been at it 6mth lol, but here is the summary vid I uploaded last July

Mine was doing the same mate,
so i changed the drop links, track rod ends and lower ball joints.
Still got the noise.

So im gonna replace the inner and outer control arm bushes and upper wishbones as the all seem to have a bit of play lol :'(

My 7th gen was knocking on bumps. It was the upper control arm ball joints that had play.

Wow thanks for the video. Definitely going to leave it to the experts! Haven't got a impact wrench or the inclination. :) I used to do all stuff like this but these days I can't be arsed! Again thanks for the brilliant information.

I hate it when you do stuff and it isn't the cure!

i know. does my head in but to be honest they were all shot to fc..uk lol

they did well to last 13 years and 124k miles though lol

The upper control arm is a ballache to remove lol droplinks etc are easy to do yourself mate.. Get yourself a big prybar or aomething and get it in between every ball joint or bush and check for play... My upper control arm at driver side was sweaky.. It got some grease and bounced up and down a few time to get rid of it lol

The droplinks will be most easily identified as they could be actually broken so you can start there and eliminate them if not the case, The ball joints and bushes 'might' look ok but you'll need to pry around them to check for wear and if you don't know what you are doing you might misdiagnose the problem, as the guys have said it could be a number of things.

Will take a look at mine as mine is making abit of clangy too and ive also strted with squeky springs on the front britains roads are a shambles

The uppers arnt that bad mate.

to get the bolts out you can either pop a jack under the hub and jack up till a gap in the spring is in line with the bolt ect.

or you can undo the bolts that hold the shock in under bonnet and drop the shock out. simple ;)

Better with struts out lol makes life alot more easier... Plus there not a nut in engine bay you have to hold with a spanner while undoing the bolt? Lol cant remember simce last time i done one was early last year lol

lol not to the upper wishbone..lol the upper wishbone comes off by undoing castle nut, releasing the balljoint, then 2 14mm bolts hold the thing in. you have to either jack up the hub slightly or undo the whole strut from under the bonnet to gain access to the 14mm bolts.

to drop the strut/shock down you have to undo the nuts under the bonnet...lol ;)

Yes i know that much tony.. Work on cars daily ;) lol just last time i done upper on an accord i couldny remember if i hady hold a nut under bonnet while undoing the 14mm bolts that hold the arm in place lol

the older accords have the nut onder the bonnet the later 6th gens dont have nut under bonnet for the upper wishbone. ;)

P.S Sim
Keep ya hair on brother, was just making sure you under stood what i was saying ya custard cream lol ;)

Well thats how i remember the nut since last time i done one on an accord it was a pre facelight yip understand you fine ya rich tea biscuit lol

oi jaffa cake!
2001 models dont have bolts under hood on pre face's do...so i was right and u was wrong...ner ner lol

:)

This thread is taking the biscuit (and before anyone starts the "Is a Jaffa Cake a biscuit or cake" quandry, just don't!!!) :D

haha pmsl
Jaffa cake is a biscuit, its scientific proven by my milk dip test.
you bourbon cream. lol

Milk Dip Test? Thats a rubbish test, so bad I've never heard of it :p

You need the 'left out in the kitchen test';

Cakes go hard, biscuits go soft ;)

What!!!
the milk dip test is when you dip ya biscuit into your milk then eat it.
a cake will fall apart in less than 2 secs.
biscuits absorb the milk and your able to eat it.

the jaffa cake falls into the biscuit category as it ****es my "milk dip test" pmsl
