Hi guys,

i have a major issue! i was picking the missus up from work tonight and on the way home i heard a blowing noise from my engine, after closer inspection it looks as if the engine is blowing from the injector / glowplug area.. im absolutely bricking it and hoping this is not something costly.. do any of you clever guys in here know what the problem might be? my car sounds like a steam train at the min and struggles to start (down to the the air leak im guessing)

Thanks in advance for any help :(

This could be one of your injectors blowing Adam had the same issue a couple of times. Hear is a link to his thread.

damo, look at the thread posted up (my injector issues)

So far in 3 years since my timing chain was changed i have had injector 1, 2 & 3. all replaced. 1 was done twice, 2nd one has been re-seated twice and injector 3 has been reseated once.

easiest way to find out it get under the bonnet and undo all 4 10mm nuts and remove engine cover and you should visibly see deposits around each injector.

i have had the engine cover off and it looks like there is oil spray all over the shop so im guessing i have the same issue as you! its the furthest on the right (4 im guessing) i unplugged the connection and it got quieter (prob shouldn't have done this)
im hoping its not going to be an ongoing issue like yours, i take it its not a DIY job either??

Thanks
Damo

Sounds like an injector seal has perished Damo. I would say this only happens if an injector has been out of the car in the past, and then refitted. I wouldn't try fixing it at home but take it to a decent diesel specialist. It's not really a Honda specialist job but definitely a diesel mechanic that has experience in removing jamned diesel injectors.

if the injector does need re-seating dont pay more than £100 for the job to be done.

My local Honda garage charged me this much to remove injector, clean injector seat, inset new seal and re insert injector.

Fahad, the injector seals are actually a brass washer, not a rubber washer.

Thanks for the heads up guys.. im gonna try and ring local honda this morning and get a price.. im just hoping they dont tell me i need to replace the injector! :(

well.. spoke to avonvale honda in northampton, They didn't commit to much and just said they would need it in for diagnostics @ £85 then they could tell me whats wrong. They went on to mention about the exhaust manifold etc.. i said it was at a friends garage and they said if i can get it diagnosed then they could price it up on what parts i needed??

been a while since i have been on here and just thought i would update this.. it was an injector seal and the injector didnt need replacing! my mate fixed it at his garage for £40 (mates rates) :)
