Just changed my air filter with a genuine honda part.

I had great acceleration before the change now it struggles and takes longer to get acceration.

The previous owners had electrical tape wrapped round the connector for the MAF.

Don't know next course of action.

Any guidance would gratefully received.

The car has not been modded and has only done 50,000.

Welcome to the forum.
Did you put the filter in the correct way around?
You might have a faulty MAF sensor hence the electrical tape causing a false reading of air mixture.

The electrical tape does seem to be suspicious... has any dash warning light come on since you replaced the filter and disturbed the MAF connector?

Hi

Thanks for the replies guys.

Thank you for the welcome to the forum.

As far as I am aware Matt the filter can only go in one way.

As you mention Jon, the electrical tape round the connector is very suspicious and I do not know what to do about it.

I do not have any warning lights on the dash.

I do not know enough in order to strip and check connections.

Best regards

Hi

Thanks for that Cliff, will have a look now.

Does any one know what pin connections are in case it is my connector at fault.

Best regards

Unplug the MAF and see it it runs better. It will throw up an error but if it runs better then you have a bad MAF.

Although it may seem coincidental you may actually have a slow operating egr valve. Remember the ecu requests a mixture of MAF and egr so a problem with either will cause this symptom.

Hi

Thankyou for the reply.

I will try that and let you know how i get on.

I am currently following your comprehensive guide on doing a major service.

Did the oil and fuel filter a few weeks ago.

I also would like to know which fault code reader would you recommend ?

Best regards

Any fault code reader will be fine for basic diagnostics mate. Check the listing for protocol compatibility with the Honda diesel cars

Hi

Will have a look to see what is compatible and available.

Is it worth cleaning or replacing the MAF if it turns out to be faulty ?

Best regards

You will just damage it mate

Hi

I will unbolt it tomorrow and see how it run's.

What type of tool is it too unbolt the sensor ?

If it is not the MAF and is the EGR valve, how big a job is it to strip and clean ?

Just looking at fault readers on ebay.

Best regards

Not a difficult job to clean but if it is egr you are better replacing or blanking it and remapping.

I think its a security torx for the MAF

Hi

Update.

Unplugged MAF sensor.

Management light came on.

Acceleration was back until limp home mode kicked in.

Plugged the sensor back in, cleared the 2 fault codes generated.

Tested egr and other sensors with diagnostic tool.

Changed the 2 security torx screws with normal pozzi drive screws.

Searching ebay for compatible new insert to replace sensor.

Best regards

Are you disconnected sensor who are after air filter?

Ok before ordering a MAF can you please temporarily blank off the egr valve and see what it does

Hi

Not sure what is needed to be done in order to do that.

I will find out what to do and have a go.

Will let you know how i get on.

Best regards

Very easy just cut up a can of coke with a pair of scissors.

Blank the bypass pipe on the front of the block at both ends and make sure you reuse the gaskets for a good seal. You will get an error again but if the power is there with the MAF plugged in then your problem is egr not MAF

Hi

I see.

This will confirm beyond any doubt which is at fault.

Thankyou.

Will give it a try.

Best regards

They should be publicly viewable, you don't need an account.

Try a different browser I think that's an internet explorer issue

Hi

Update.

Struggled trying to remove egr valve.

Gave up in the end.

Ordered new, third party made maf sensor.

Hopefully will be here for the weekend.

Best regards

Why were you removing the egr? Just blank it at the bypass pipe at the front, just two bolts each side
