How safe is my Accord:
My son tells me NOT to use Cruise Control or Adaptive Cruise Control during bad weather (Heavy rain or Ice)
What actually happens if I set speed to 70mph and hit patch of ice or if another car jumps in front of me quickly?
Also under normal conditions when my ACC kicks in does it apply brakes with stop lights or does it slow transmission?

I'm not sure. CC or actual driving, the moment the wheels aren't all rolling together (i.e. when you're slipping on ice, water, leaves, gravel) the VSA intervenes and will likely require you to take control.

But to be fair. I've been driving mine for nearly 5 years now and use CC very regular (I don't have the adaptive thing as mine's early 7th gen). But in dangerous driving conditions, ice, wet etc I'd never use it through sheer common sense. You can't fully trust machines and computers in these situations. You've gotta be on the ball yourself in my opinion. But seriously, most of the time the CC is fine. I use it a lot. It makes motorway and A-Road driving very easy and helps with fuel consumption in such driving scenarios.

He is kind of correct, but as Steve says the VSA traction control would cut in and cut power to the spinning wheel/s and control things.

You should not use cruise control in snow or ice or very wet weather e.g floods.

If you read the section in the handbook it tells you this.

The CMBS system will brake the car if it senses an object in front.

This is the resultant question that occurs when using those systems regularly. You son is right, its not safe, because the answer to the question above should be, brake in a controlled manor! ;)

in heavy rain or ice, travelling at 70mph would not be recommended anyway....... :D

ACC should be fine.........you just need to ensure that the vehicle speed is appropriate for the road conditions.
