Hi all,

I've got a 2004 i-CTDI tourer which has developed a strange rev drop when accelerating, it only appears do to it in 4th gear. When accelerating the revs will reach around 2,500 RPM and drop back down to 2,000 RPM, then continue rising normally.

When it happens there is a slight change in the engine tone, but no physical effect, acceleration still feels smooth all the way up the range. I do wonder about the clutch but it (and the DMF) were replaced approx 25,000 miles back and it hasn't had much of a hard life since then.

Things to note:
The biting point does seem to be a bit high in the car, but apart from the first few hundred miles after having the clutch done it's always been fairly high (for my liking at least).
This years service is due in February, I'll be ordering the bits from Cox soon. It's always had a genuine Bosch fuel filter on it, could it possibly be that it's struggling to get enough fuel to the engine under acceleration in higher gears?

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Jim

I think the clutch is the problem...regardless it's been changed recently. Test it again- at 4 gear at around 50mph sharp push accelerator full. If revs rise disproportionate to the speed rise, the clutch skids... You can make similar test at 5 gear.

If filter is the problem, will be lack of fuel at any high revs regardless the gear...

Ok, not quite the news I was hoping to hear. I'll be out on some 50/60 roads in the morning so will give it a go and see what happens.

Cheers

Classic clutch slip.

Hmm, I might be leaving this Accord behind soon if it is the case, as it's heading into 13 years old with reasonable millage and many dinks and a few other more minor jobs to do etc... it may be time to move on :(

Sounds like the clutch is slipping slightly right up the rev range giving the impression of normal progress, then grabbing and pulling the engine back, then continuing normal acceleration without the slip.

I had the same symptom in my 8th Gen. A new clutch fixed it :-(
