Ignition barrel on 1998 model

Hello all, The key is in the ignition but it won't move. RAC tell me a tumbler has dropped and I need a new ignition barrel. Agents tells me a new ignition barrel is about £900! Then I'm told there will be a problem coding keys. But I was also told by somebody else that Accord keys had no chip until 2002. Help!

Is you car a Japanese import? Every car made for Europe since 1996 had to have a factory immobiliser fitted.

Check if you can get a locksmith to repair the barrel.

Mr Honda is right, speak with a local lock smith. And no they were coded before 2002

Many thanks for the replies The locksmith came and fixed it fast and a lot cheaper than a replacement barrel. So thanks for the invaluable advice!
