Hi, I have a Honda Accord 2.2 CDTI on a 54 plate. I recently bought the car about a week ago. Since then I have had engine management light come on and off a few times. After going to the garage I had been advised that they have checked everything, (vacum hoses, and some flaps) and all seems to be working fine. There is no loss of power, smoke or anything.

Just wondering if any one else have had this problem? Is it something I need to be worried about? Need to go down south this weekend, was hoping to take my car...

thanks

I believe there is a tsb covering this which sees the IMRC replaced with a modified one. If you do a search you should find it. Were there any fault codes logged. From memory the one is P2004. Was it Honda who checked it over.

Hi paul, thanks fr the quick reply. I have Read all posts relating to IMRC solenoid, but nt com across one fr IMRCvalve.

I had it checked from a local specialist, and the code is 178-9

That's not one I've ever seen before and there's nothing after a quick search coming up. CJ (Pepster) may have a bit more info from his sources. He's on most days.

Just found this!!!

I appreciate it's a Civic but the code you have seems to equate to P2004 for which the intermitently MIL is a known tsb.

Looks detailed, will print it off and hand to the mechanic, bit too technical for me... going in tomorrow to see another specialist... let you know what he says....

thanks

Have you seen the below.

http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/1240-imrc-frequency-solenoid-failure-dtc-p2004/page__fromsearch__1

That appears to describe exactly your problems with the same fault code and the required fix. In summary your IMRC has an intermittent leak and there is an amended part as detailed. Honda would know this.

Booked in at ds autos in shipley tomorrow morning, he said he has a spare solenoid to test with and should be able to diagnose the problem. Let you know what happens..

got my abs problem sorted as mentioned in my other post. Also the mechanic put me in a solenoid for test purposes. Im off to birmingham tomorrow, should put it to the test and c if the MIL comes on...

Hopefully it should solve it, and the mechanic offered it to me for £50 if it works...

Sounds like a fair deal mate, fingers crossed.

Did you manage to sort this problem out, i have the same problem, please advise what the mechanic did.

You're getting the same problem? Is that error code P2004?

According to Mohammed's other post in another thread, it appears so (I think, but I cannot identify P1789 from my data)... http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/12868-intake-manifold-runner-control-stuck-open-code/page__pid__167215#entry167215

Hi Mohammed, welcome to the club and sorry that you have this problem. There was another recent thread on the stuck IMRC/P2004 problem recently - here's a link to page 15... http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/1127-slight-missing-or-hesitation-excessive-smoking-etc/page__st__280 where some advice is given on possible solutions. Hope that helps but please do ask further questions.

Ah got it Jon - thanks.

I'm betting on the EVR valve again!

Yeah, I think so.

I googled P1789 and a possibly unreliable source suggested it was a sensed electrical fault with the EVR/actuator. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that the turbo EVR can't be swapped over on these early (pre-facelift) engines as a test?

I've tried this before, and it can't :( Had to get new ones from Honda

I've been able to sometimes force the actuator to work via the HDS. I believe what is happening is that over time due probably to a fairly constant throttle position, the valve is building up gunk and eventually sticking.

When you run the IMRC test via the HDS, it forces it to open to 3 different angle thresholds. I've noticed recently when testing sticking IMRC's that if you run the test once, it might fail, but if you run it a few more times, it eventually passes. If you watch the valve you can actually see the actuator moving as the system is forced to open and close it.

It might not be a guaranteed fix but it has solved a few that I've seen, and I see this error quite a bit to be honest.
