Injector removal Problem

Hi Guys

I am just about to remove one of the injectors on my Accord I-CTDI and seem to have hit a brick wall.

The 30mm spanner I bought for the job which is a standard open end flat shaft spanner in way fits in to be able to undo the nut holding the solenoid housing. The actual solenoid electrical connector gets in the way. I can't even get a pair of grips in to do the job.

Has anyone attempted this job successfully and if so what sort of spanner did you use?

To remove the injector you need to undo electrical connector, fuel pipe Union and the t30 torx bolt which holds the injector in place. Then in an ideal world the injector will lift up with with clamp that holds it to the head. But what normally happens is the injector seizes, various methods have been tried to free them off coca cola brake fluid getting the engine very hot soaking overnight with wd40 etc. it's more luck if it comes out freely. But with the spanner try and turn the injector slightly to see if the body moves or just the top part. If it is totally seized then you will end up destroying the injector to remove it. You can try the slide hammer approach where you screw one in to the top part of the injector and that may free it. I've had one at work where that didn't work and we used the tool Honda supply to the dealers on loan and that did work.

Be careful not to damage the injector seat. It's an alloy block and therefore a soft metal. Tapping new threads in is a very tricky job.
 
Also no matter how careful you are there is a chance the threads in the head which holds the injector can strip. When that happens to us we get the thread retapped larger from m6 to m8 with a new bolt and the clamp drilled out larger as well.

I did fear the worst having read all the horror stories about Injectors not wanting to move but with the use of a cheapo hammer extractor tool it moved very easily and I have cleaned everything up fitted new washer seal etc.

Feeling very pleased with myself I sat in the car to start it up for a test and that was where it all went wrong.

I just won't start now. I have checked that diesel is getting to each injector and it is.

What has gone wrong??

Any ideas - I'm panicing

No, it isn't

I have never had a problem starting before. Only took the injector out and re-installed it. The only electrical connector I took off was for this Injector.

Any other ideas?
 
How did you check for diesel getting to each injector? Have you tried pumping the primer? When you crank the engine does it attempt to start?

I took the return nozzle of the top of each injector and when I cranked the engine Diesel came out.

I have pumped the primer several times and it did go hard.

The engine makes no attempt to start at all.

I thought that these Bosch systems were self priming anyway.

If the engine management light doesn't stay on, does it mean that there is not a problem with the electric system.

Check carefully the vacuum hoses and connectors and multiplies around the top of the engine, it's possible you may have disturbed/broken something.

What do you mean by vacuum hoses and multiplies.

I have checked everything carefully for just that reason
 
Multi plugs stupid predictive text. There will be some vacuum hoses which run around by the injectors which connect to solenoids. What year accord is it? I would try blanking egr pipe off and see if that makes a difference. That is the most common cause of non start for these models
 
Seen plenty now that don't start because of egr issue.. Even if you haven't touched it
 
I've seen more pre face lift with egr issues than the later ones. If it starts when blanked best bet is speak to Fahad get it remapped with egr blanked off. A new egr valve is around £600

Hi guys

Sorry for not getting back earlier.

I decided to get the injector re-cond and it was a good decision.

Apparently when I took the solenoid off to enable me to screw the hammer tool into the injector I somehow lost the small ball bearing out of it.

The company I had it re-cond by picked it up on Monday pm and returned it Tues am. Great service.

All's working just fine now thank goodness and engine seems to have a bit more power seems a bit quieter to.

I was a long time ago now but I seem to remember it was about 70 quid for a pick up and return like new the next day job. Worth it to me for a hassel free service.
