Hi driving home from work yesterday, half way home in 5th gear put my foot down to go a bit faster and it jumped out of gear,I put it in 5th again and it was fine until I put my foot down again and it jumped out again,if I drove at one speed it would be ok but as soon as I put my foot down it would jump out (didn't do it in any other gear). It did this for about 5 mins then it went fine it wouldn't jump out of 5th. Should I start worrying.

To be blunt, yes... the diesel 'boxes are normally excellent.

Does it feel like it is going into gear like it always did?

If you're lucky, then it'll just be a linkage adjustment that's needed, or maybe a worn bush needs replacement. But these problems would have affected the 'feel' of the gear changes.

Never seen this on one of these before.. It's normally a knackered box.

Is the car high miles?

Maybe there was a loose bolt or stone/whatever that caused a temporary obstruction to the linkage and prevented 5th being fully selected? But unlikely and I'd have thought it would've felt odd going into 5th. Maybe remove the ashtray and see if you can see anything loose underneath it.

Had a look at the linkage under the ashtray and it looks a little bit worn,I greased it up, I went out in the car before and it still seems ok, very strange just hope it was a one off.

If it is the gearbox I'm sure a used one shouldn't be too expensive

I would be tempted to give the gearbox a flush with some fresh genuine oil. When was it last done?
