Just bought my car last Thursday and could smell Diesel when stationary. Checked out the forum and found out about the manifold issues!

Anyway took off the heat shield this evening and found this , not surprised really sounds more like a service part when you read the forum. The cars was first bought April '04 and has 107000 miles, shame I missed out on the extended warranty. So the plan is to buy a second hand manifold and have it welded in work, then change it during the weekend as it needs to be on the road during the week. Play my cards right and I might be able to sell the other re-welded manifold on fleabay!

Will take loads of pics to help others. Just need a manifold now!

Will be interesting to see the welded version mate. Good luck with everything

Won't get it done for a while but I've see this type of crack dealt with quite easily. Just need to get it spanking clean before welding to ensure no carbon contamination.

Will be a pig to remove I know though!

How easily did the heat shield come off? Would like to take a peep under mine, but it looks like a tight squeeze.

10mm socket and a long extension, thats all thats needed. The heat-shield can only be moved out of the way, not removed completely. You would need to unbolt the wastegate actuator to completely remove the shield. Took me five minutes to check. Easy job

Check with any Honda dealer, I'm sure they have a stockpile of cracked ictdi manifolds

Great little tip that Des,

I'm sure it will help quite a few members, especially those that have a niggling doubt.

Thanks

3 bolts is all that holds the heat shield on so as said a removal for inspection is very easy, as long as you can reach to see behind the back of the engine.

Honda have probably melted down all the old ones to make the new ones.

Welding the cracks up worked out well for me, put 20k on it since and all ok still, I took a few pics when I did mine in the thread below.
