Hi all!

I'm currently looking to replace my current car and have decided on an Accord 2.4. The only thing I can't decide on is if i should get the auto vs manual - any thoughts? I like the added speed of the manual, but the laziness of the auto.

I've seen this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-ACCORD-2-4i-VTEC-EXECUTIVE-SUPER-TOURER-with-LPG-conversion-/151246991098?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item233705eefa

Would the high mileage or the LPG put you off? I'm not really too concerned about the MPG as the 2.4 is not too bad, but if an LPG would save a few quid then why not!

TIA

Manual mate. Better MPG, the gear box is very good, the gear ratios are reasonably long, so you can drive leisurely. Once above about 25mph you can cruise around in 6th unless you need to suddenly speed up. And you'll have a lot more fun with the high revs as the 2.4 is a nice engine ;) .

Thanks for your reply.

Thats what i was thinking, its just there are not many manuals in Executive trim which ideally i would like. Is yours an Executive or were you lucky enough to find a Type S with sat nav and leather. Nice car by the way :)

Cheers

Im sure I saw in another post someone mention there is a For Sale section on this forum, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Anyone got an Accord they want to sell? It must be a 2.4 tourer :)

Cheers

Once you've made ten posts the for sale section is viewable.

hello, post back lol

I would choose manual, well maintained high miler is no real issue but not sure on lpg

I have a manual - 2.4 on lpg - I get about 230-240 miles on 28 pounds woth of lpg. I put £20 of normal petrol in maybe once every 6 weeks?

I would rather a manual then an auto.

Go for a manual, I own a 2.4 type s 6 speed manual and it is brilliant. Just love it, can't get enough of driving it.

As above, get a manual I drive a 2.4 manual ex, if a high miler make sure the clutch AND clutch bearing are done. I got stung on this lol.

Thanks for your replies guys, I've decided to go for a manual based on your replies.

I've started a thread in the Newbies section so hopefully you'll be seeing a few pictures of a new purchase soon, can't wait :)

Ashzz, can I ask how much the clutch and bearing cost to replace please? Maybe I could haggle the price down if they haven't been done and make it the first job to do.

Are the clutches a weak point on these then or is it just that they cost a lot to get done?

Thanks again!

You are looking at 300-500 depending on where you get it done really. Best thing to do ring HH with the discount code from one of the mods and order the parts from there, then get a local trusted mechanic to do it. Make sure they have paperwork for the clutch, don't take the sellers word mate.

Wow, thanks for the info and quick reply, I appreciate it.

12 posts... woohoo. I can finally see the for sale section :)

500quid, be lucky if you get it done for that price, its a labour intensive job that
I got mine done parts and labour including clutch master cylinder for £450. Oem clutch as well, you just got to shop around, make sure you don't get ripped off. Did take him two days thou.

Those of you who are saying get a manual have you ever driven the auto 2.4?

I knew I was getting an auto from the outset so the missus can use the car, she suffers with sciatica in her left leg so using a clutch causes alot of pain. I have also been converted to auto since using her Civic, even though I've always said I'd never have one! It just makes driving so much easier especially when we go away.

I wish I had test driven the manual version though to see what it was like but I certainly wouldn't rule the auto out, it's got plenty of poke and it still has the semi auto mode when you want some fun :)

Whats the in gear acceleration like on the 2.4 5 speed auto then? I know there is big difference in 0-60 from the manual
