My 2003 Accord has started to idle at 6000 RPM. When sitting, the steering wheel shakes, aswell as the rear-view mirror. It is felt almost throughout the car.
I haven't checked anything as yet as I really don't know what to check first. Also poor battery power (cannot sit with radio on with engine off for too long)
Additional info: on first start in the mornng, it will take a second to start and when it does, the engine lets out a seqeal. The rest of the day is fine. Any suggestions welcome. Many thanks in advance.

6000 rpm? Do you mean 600 (six hundred)? Let's out a squeal, sound like accessory belt slipping, which could explain the electrics not being 100% happy and I'd imagine, although I don't know, be related to the oddly low idling.

I'd wait for a second opinion though. Don't just go on my advice

600 of course. lol. I hope it is the accessory belt and will have a look at replacing it. Cheers for the reply.

If its power then it would make it worst if you turned on rear window demister fans ac etc etc, should make the engine labour.

Check your idle valves

May be 2 unrelated problems as well, if the belt's slipping enough it may stop charging the battery?

6000 isnt idle, its revving its **** off :D
however, as mentioned. check the alternator belt is tight and not worn. these are usually quite simple to replace, just slacken off the tensioning roller.
your battery is probably shagged too, when was it last replaced?

once youre happy the battery and alternator belt are OK, get a multimeter and measure the voltage out of the alternator when the engine is running. it should be at 14 volts

it could be the idle control valve i had this problem with my civic a while back it was idling at 500ish use a bit of wd40 to loosen it up done the job for me
