Is there anyone within 100 miles of bucks that can lower my car for my today/tomorrow ?? Springs waiting ...

What's the cost I should be looking at, my normal guy quoted me 6 hours, £300 !!

I doubt many DIY peeps will be willing to do springs in this weather.

Prices depend really, some charge by the hour and some charge per corner. Where in bucks are you exacly located as otherwise you stand no chance of any one offering at all.

£300 for fitting lowering springs- dude NO WAY!! You can have it done for £20 per corner. Shop around. Curious, why the rush???

£300 does sound a little steep and 6 hours is way too long. At the most it should take a good mechanic 2 hours and thats them working quite slow.
I would shop around mate.
Do you think its wise to do it right now, maybe wait till the weather gets a little better?

Not sure what the setup is on the 7th gen but you may need an impact gun to split the springs from the damper

It's pretty straight forward to be honest and only specialist tools that are required at spring compressors (and good ones at that). All you need to remove the springs are an Allen key and a ring spanner. I bought a long 14mm and 17mm spanner (Laser Tool) which made the job easier. When I Pyrrha springs on took me about 6 hours (never done before). When I took them off took about 3. I don't have a ramp so there was the jacking up etc included in that.

You have to tighten the rears on with the car loaded due to the muktilink set up otherwise the ride is poor. You don't have to take any of the stabiliser links off either.

Just that I've got time off over xmas, so wanted to get it done before I'm too busy ...

My normal guy said £300, the place that done my MOT said £150, but they'd need the car for a morning, which is a huge pain in the arse.

I'm in High Wycombe, but don't mind a drive to get it done, if it's getting done by someone who has done it before and I won't be waiting all day ... I was actually asking for mechanic folks, or guys with the right tools and know how, not really novices, anyone who has done it before really ...

I've done it before, but not on this, spring compressors are only £30 from halfords, so maybe that's the way to go ...

Paul, think you remember enough to pm/post for me me a rough guide, for front and back ??

Okay Wycombe hey thats strange I used to live in Tylers Green when I was a teenager. Anyway your not far from Chesham to get to Tony and the lads at Wheels in Motion http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/ they will be able to do the job in about 1.5 to 2hrs depending on how it all goes. They charge £70 per hour labour but they dont mess about and make jobs last longer than they need to.

The advantage is they will also be able to do your geometry afterwards as well and advise any special parts needs as required. If you go DIY its not a hard job to do just got to make sure you load the bushes properly which with axle stands and using a jack isnt an exact science in my mind. I didnt mind doing that on my old ford escorts but these days I like things done 100% correct.

If I lived down there it would be Tony at WIM for me too. Yesterday you were selling, today you're modding - I can't keep up!

It gets stranger, I actually live in Tylers Crescent in Hazlemere, the sign for Tylers Green is in the next road as I'm sure you know !! High Wycombe is an approximation of location ... small world ...

I'll try to slow down so you can keep up, I didn't want to sell, I thought I was looking at a stupidly ridiculous bill to fix the alternator problem I'm having, turned out to be much cheaper so we decided to keep and just prepare it for winter ... so then we look at winter tyres, they are actually pretty expensive too, so we've agreed the best thing to do for the winter is put scooby back on the road (cheaper than the cost of tyres by a huge amount) ... in the new year I'll spend a few days making her go again, and park up the honda till the white stuff and winter goes away ... I couldn't possibly go back to using my or any subaru all year round, I am now accustomed to the comfort, economy, class and despite this one problem, reliability that goes along with the honda, but I don't really think there's anything I can do to a honda that will make it cope anywhere near as well with the snow ( and torrential rain that's to come ) as the socoby does, and even if a magical set of tyres do exist, they would cost the earth, and who has the earth at this time of year ...

I guess I'll give WIM a try, still it's a long way from the £20 per corner that people won't stop mentioning ... anyone have a number for some where that charged them this £20 a corner ??

I've never seen or heard of £20 a corner. So I'm with you on that. If I had the car in front and had it to look at I could easily post a guide but sadly now with the Vec. A word of caution though. If you're only lowering the car the camber is likely to be out and if so you'll need the adjustable arms (circa £130 pair). When I lowered mine it was way out and changed them as well. I then had to pay £35 for Hunter tracking and setup so factor that in as well. It's not cheap overall but improves looks and handling.

Haha small world indeed, I lived in Kings Ride near the shops

Paul is correct if you want a car that handles properly you will more than likely need some adjustable suspension components and someone who can do a proper geo setup. I think your trying to do a cheap job that cant really be done that cheap, why not wait a while till you have found a place your happy with and can afford to do the job properly.

Just had mine fitted approx 4 weeks ago at Demon Tweeks in Wrexham and they charged £160 inc the tracking etc. Took them approx 3 hours in total. Top bunch of lads but a bit of a trek for you.

so hang on you now using a scooby...and you have lowered a car before...why cant you do the springs your self in your own time, when you get moments off work etc?

If the Accord is off the road then thats what id do.

Haha small world indeed, I lived in Kings Ride near the shops

So weird, I go there all the time, is my local gas/electric top up place !!

The accord isn't off the road, and won't be till scooby is on the road, and scooby won't be on the road until january, probably closer to the end than the beginning ... I would have a go myself if it were summer, I don't get much time off, even at this time of year and don't really relish the idea of spending any of it in the snow swearing and grazing my knuckles ...

Anyway, looks like I've got some places to try tomorrow, though it's not looking good for getting it done before xmas now, thanks for all the tips guys, as usual all very helpful :(

It's not that I'm looking to get it done on the cheap, even in this thread, £20 a corner is mentioned, I just don't want to pay more than I have to ... who does ...

Hi Joe, I had my Type S lowered a few weeks ago by a chap who runs his small garage in Huntingdon Cambs. He charged me £80 for the job- and I didn't complain. I left him with the car at 9am and it was ready for collection at 1pm. Im not surprised that u'l get different quotes depending where you go. Like Monks said earlier, some charge per hour and some charge per corner. Maybe the smaller garages charge less than the bigger ones. All I can say to you is shop around for a reasonable price, unless you get a pal to do it for you for nothing.

Yeah i understand, im a DIY nutter, and even i find mechanics in the cold a big unpleasant pain. Just depends on how much budget you have for mods. If you got a few spare pennys you might as well save your self the hassle and get it done by someone else.

Mates rates round my way are £15 a corner for a strut replacement. £20 - £25 is more the listed price for most garages. Changing springs is not rocket science guys.

Come on Fahad, its £25 to you because you probably sponsor them with the money you spend with them... ;)

If you have done the job - as I have, the saloon can be a right sod, its not just one or two bolts, its back seats out, disconnecting arms to get struts out and a proper alignment afterwards.
It probably took me 3-4 hours as I hadnt done it before. Even at my rates thats well into the mid £200's without alignment.

Plus if you give the job to a ham fisted monkey, chances are you will be back with a leaky damper within the month...
