after introducing myself I have decided to take the advice on board & get my car booked into Honda. the smell from exhaust doesn't seem that bad, but I took cover of engine and had a quick whiff, and does appear to smell a little from there. I don't think the timing chain has gone, but then I have always known diesels to be noisy, I do have a vid of engine but I'm on my phone so will upload it later. problem is I need to do it quick as 18/05/2012 is my 7 year deadline! charging me half hour labour just to have a nosey! Just don't want to put it off thinking its fine and then boom couple grand later out of pocket!

Well if it's a few quid and they approve the claim then it's worth it, but it is cheeky of them.

Half hour labour? Make sure you enjoy as many complimentary cups of coffee as possible! (I only managed 1/4 before they came back with my manifold diagnosis).

Yep it is a cheek i think for a sniff. Can you get the car to HH as if they do the work i would say there would be no charge for looking at the fault. But if you do ring them them to check 1st and say you were recommend by Type Accord.

I know £45 for a sniff, and a listen to the engine lol. I wish I could take it down to hold croft, but I work shifts and have very limited time in which to get the vehicle sorted under Honda warranty, plus it wont be far off in fuel. I would try my luck with the independent dealer I bought it off on his 3 month warranty, but some how I think he will worm his way out of £2000 repairs. I'm thinking it will just be the manifold, I think the timing chain is fine, the engine doesn't seem over loud for a diesel, I drive a lot of different diesels at work and it don't sound different, anyways I should have my answer tomorrow morning, wish me luck

I thought I would update you with my experience, with Honda swansway Rochdale today, well they did charge me £45 for half hour labour but in all fairness they had it for well over an hour, whilst waiting I decided to play a tactical game and got chatting with the manager, few jokes here, general conversations etc, get them to like you talk about utter rubbish, sometimes
it will pay off. so tech comes back and says timing chain is fine, he said there was a slight noise coming from the alternator belt and asked if it had been jet washed in engine which it had before I bought it, he then said the belt was dry and squeaking a bit. which he fix with a little silicon grease.

So we move on to the manifold, he stated there was a slight smell and to keep an eye on it. he could no cracks on inspection.

so I sit down with karen the servIce ***istant, she said so everythings ok just keep an eye on it. I told her that if there is a slight smell my concern is that a couple of months down the line it will get worse and muggings here would have to fork the bill for new manifold. she turns to the manager and asks can we do it under warranty with no visible crack? queue my cheeky grin towards the manager, who thens says yeah why not just say its cracked!

so she has put claim in and I will know within 48hrs if they will replace under warranty!

so fingers crosses I will get a result, just a quick one she also quoted me £379 for 2 services, one interim, and major which would include brake fluid, and aircon service. and two mots. do we think that's a good deal?

Fair play to them and that's a good deal on the service. Good result mate.

Good result on the manifold. £45 not bad if they'll do it under warranty, its amazing what a bit of banter will do sometimes! When I looked a couple of years ago it was £250 major / £125 minor service with free MOTs (not sure if they included aircon service) so that seems about right.

Good news Honda are going to replace my manifold under warranty!! Thanks for the advice guys! Think you might of saved me a few bob there!
