Maps and mpg question when moving from MK7

Hi All

I have MK7 XE diesel saloon which is equipped with reverse camera and honda ipod kit. It gives me regular 52-54 mpg as per OBC however when I calculate brim to brim, it is 44-46 mpg. I am very happy with the car.

Now my dilemma is that every time I see MK8 accord, I feel :wub: for those cars. They are hardly seen and very well executed.


I keep thinking of moving from MK7 to MK8 and have few questions;

1- My sat nav uses DVD maps. Does 2008 MK8 uses the same DVD for maps or different one?

2- I get 44-46 mpg brim to brim. Will I get similar figures with 2008 manual Ictdi?

3- Price difference is approximately 4.5-5K. I am not sure if I can justify that price just for the new shape? I do not see any other difference in terms of better seats or more toys (as mine is well equipped). I should be asking this question myself, but has anybody else a different way of looking at this?

4- Other strong contender is BMW 3 series 2010-2011 with sat nav and xenons? Anybody compared MK8 and 2010-2011 318-320d side to side or driven them regularly?

I can only really help with point 2:

I’ve had my manual 8th get diesel almost exactly a year. In that time I’ve driven 16634 miles, and have filled 1471.67 litres of fuel. That’s 11.3 miles per litre, or 51.4 mpg. I’m a mostly steady driver doing about 35 miles a day of mostly 50-60 mph with some town snarl ups, and the occasional motorway blast. Your driving style and routes will have a significant effect on your returns.

Many thanks for your input. I must say that you are getting excellent mpg.
 
12 months with mine, from a diesel 7 manual tourer to a diesel 8 auto tourer, 15.000 in that time, not a whimper, there is no comparison between them the 8 is smoother. steadier, and quicker, more comfortable, slightly heavier on fuel, the 7 did 50mpg no problem, the 8 is about 41.5 mpg obc but brim to brim I am getting 10 miles per liter the latter is auto so expected. Shame there will be no 9's to follow on, They just get better and better. The gps maps are the same I think, but updated to a point, you also get TMC that will keep you clear of traffic, by auto diverting your route, and yes it does work. I am still wading through the drivers manual. Finding new things every day. LOL

Many thanks. I bet you are enjoying auto. Auto is preference but they come with premium.

Confusion is that I have 2015 maps in MK7 and TMC works well with auto re-routing. Now most forum members say that MK8 navigation has limited map updates so that makes me think that MK7 maps might be different than MK8.

Why is there no MK9? Has honda discontinued Accord?
 
Where have you been the last 12 months??

Re the maps I have no idea what or how they work, Our gps on the boat has no road markings and we always drive straight lines. Get an Auto you only live once.

Slightly off topic, but the super efficient 3 cylinder 1.0 petrol Eco Boost start / stop Fiesta I have to drive at work doesn't make close to 50mpg in the real world. And it can't pull the skin of a rice pudding. And the boot is about the size of my trouser pocket. And it doesn't inspire confidence at speed or on long journeys. It does have DAB though ;)

You can argue the toss over the relative danger of emissions from a 5 year old diesel compared to a 2 year old petrol (and then again about a 5 year old diesel to a 1, 10 or 15 year old diesel), but gallon for gallon the Ford isn't close on any level.
 
I got 55-63 mpg in my 8th gen on a decent run. If you search the forum you should find a pic of my speedo.

Apparrantly the facelift 8th gen is meant to be more refined if your budget goes that far.

All down hill of course, going to a funeral LOL Or have you been going to a vw agent for servicing??

I got them when traveling from my house in Dudley to the Trafford Centre in Manchester. I reset the clock as I set off and took a pic on the car park. I was doing 70 on the way down and got 63. On the way back it was raining and I was doing 80 so it dropped to 58.

The 155 mile trips to Wales through the twisty roads which involved some overtaking I got between 52 and 55.

I just did the same trip in my 2.0 auto petrol crv and got 36mpg.
 
Lol. It had the DPF removed and running 0w30 helped along with goodyear eff grip performance tyres.

I only got 44 with my work journey so it's all about the journey I'm afraid and using the real time mpg to set your throttle position.

There's plenty of other people getting these results but I'd say 50 mpg on a long run is realistic at 75mph.
 
You are now making driving a chore not a pleasure!! most of us have no time to scientifically examine the engine like me I guess most just put fuel in and drive till the little orange light on the dash says "MORE"

I have 2 of your "mods" but the DPF is still in there, when it packs up it will be extracted and mapped, like yours?

So you are not typical
 
Lol. You need to drive a 2.0 petrol auto and get decent mpg. Now that's a chore.


To be honest I didn't really need to look at the speedo that much once I got used to it. I just got the car up to speed then took my foot off the gas and then re applied it slowly until the torque of the car pulled the car along. When cruising the real time mpg would be at 60mpg. It wasn't hard and I wasn't driving slow.

The idtec is a great engine but the clutch isn't. Across the two forums the people that's took the clutch apart them selves have found the self adjusting system to be faulty. If I go back to a diesel it will either be an auto or one that doesn't have a weak clutch. Hopefully the 1.6 idtec is better.

The funny thing is that alot of the owners that needed clutches had standard accords and crvs. All 2.2 idtec.
