Hello people,

I have another problem with my Accord now!

Last night, I was driving to a local costcutter during my revision break, all was fine on the way there. However, on the way back, my car decided to sound like a tractor all over a sudden on low revs and idle. I've read a few posts to similar incidents but haven't discovered any of them being cured or the end result being shared.

The clutch feels like there is a lot of vibration going through it, it also feels VERY juddery. I did have a sticky clutch at times but didn't make anything of it as it was very rarely that I used to notice it. In terms of noise, as I said, it sounds like one hell of a loud diesel and it is very unpleasant to say the least. It's very noticeable on idle and low revs, however on higher revs it seems to be pretty normal. Another thing is, when I press the clutch, the sound doesn't eliminate, but it seems as though it reduces very slightly. Also, driving wise, it does not seem to effect the power or gear changes. It's just the feeling of the clutch and the sound that is worrying.

I do fear it is the DMF that's a gonner, but just wanted to know if anyone else has had this particular problem and found the solution?

I am going to take it down to my mechanic later on, but would like to get opinions on the possible cause of the problem from here.

Thanks :)

Ps. Is it safe to continue driving without the risk of causing any further damage to other components??

I'm afraid this does sound like the DMF but get this properly dionosed first.
Tbh I wouldn't drive the car or start it just incase its chain related.

That was my worst fear, the timing chain. But I thought if it was the timing chain then it would make a loud knocking noise?

I'll try get a video up of the sound. As there is a very distinctive sound when I switch the car off also, which is hard to explain.

Sibby there was a member hear with also a sound like this.He started the engine a few time and it went bang.
Don't make the same mistake get it looked at by a professional before you start up the car.

Thanks for the advice brett.

I just got back after having it checked out by my mechanic. He was absolutely certain it's the DMF as the sound was actually reduced significantly on pressing the clutch. He also confirmed that the noise from the timing chain would be significantly different and he'd be able to tell straightaway.

Another thing he went through was symptoms of a failing DMF and it was what I was experiencing but I thought it was minor.

On the positive side (bar the cost for it)... I've booked my car into CG motorsport for the 20th May and Lynda recommended I take the 8 paddle clutch as I'll be doing everyday driving. I have also opted for the SMF over the DMF due to them being so prone to problems. Tbh I don't know much about these and if anyone has alternative recommendations please feel free to share them!

Oh and bring on a Stage 2 remap! ;)

Ohh! And while driving home just now... The clutch seems to feel alot better all over a sudden and the tractor sound has been reduced significantly (very minimal sound atm)... I have no idea if this is a good sign or a bad sign :|

Sounds more and more like a transmission problem but again I would get it checked out. Eliminate that its the chain

That's the plan. I'm getting a second opinion on it tomorrow hopefully.

And thanks for the advice bro :)

Sibby it's possible the springs in the DMF are failing which is why it sometimes sounds better as it's moving about. Just get it changed asap. The 8 paddle is a very good option, don't worry Linda will look after you.

She did recommend the 8 paddle and tbh, I just left it to her. The only downside was that 20th May is the earliest date they had available but I don't really have another option.

I also just tried driving it again, but the sound has returned, however this time... When I press the clutch down... It knocks and weird rumble sort-of sound comes from the clutch :/. Think it's pretty un-driveable now :(

I was also wondering if it would be possible to get the Stage 2 Remap on that day since I am coming up to Leeds?

I don't think i'm local on the 20th but drop me a line seperately and we can work something out.
