New car hell! Thumping noise / Misfire symptoms 2.2CDti

Hello!

My first post should of been a cheerful and happy one. but instead i need your help guys to diagnose what is happening with my new run around.

I have purchased a 2004 Honda Accord 2.2 CDti estate Exec

Drove it home perfectly but suddenly..


There is no funny noises while idling but the moment you rev the engine it makes a misfire/ thumping noise through the airbox intake and out of the exhaust.

Driving the car its obvious that the car now has alot less power and smokes a tad more under hard acceleration.

The engine sounds like it has an rattle noise around 2-3k rpm but only while driving hard.


I have dismantled the EGR valve, MAF Sensor and given them both a clean, checked vaccum hoses and general connections.

No error codes are present when plugged in.

That's a weird one..

Are you sure the intake pipes and airbox are all correctly fitted and securely fastened?

No warning lights at all? Does your warning light come on as normal when you cycle the ignition? Nobody's removed the cluster bulb have they to hide a fault? I've seen someone do this on an accord previously..

Any other symptoms? Can you smell any fumes or see any leaks around the injectors? Does the turbo sound ok and spool as normal?

How many miles has it done ?

DMF badly worn and making the whole engine shake? Does heavy vibration/rumbling seem to come up the clutch pedal?

The rattle at 2-3k I would suggest is pronounced diesel knock? can sound rattly... That noise coupled with the smoke and lumpiness IMHO would point to over fuelling of a cylinder hence diesel knock? I once had this on a Mondeo and it was injectors... Sounds fuel/air related to me

Thanks for the replies.

No fumes in cabin, manifold was replaced anyway a while back. No visible leaks and the ecu light comes on as normal and then disappears.

DMF was replaced recently also. Air box has been removed and checked during EGR cleaning

I spoke to Honda garage today, They need to see it but basically suggested injector problem or low compression

These things only seem to happen to me... only just got over the 5k spent on my VW T5 after a garage put petrol in it and it destroyed the engine. chasing them through Court as we speak
