Help please, now the other day after driving my car, went to start the car again after 5 minutes and it wouldn't start. After the third attempt it started. Any clues guys??

What engine?

How long between attempts?

How long did you try each time?

Is the battery holding up OK?

Any recent work?

Hi, its the 2.4 k24. About 4 seconds turn over, and just a few between each attempt. Had a new fuel filter done, but I'm sure it done it before. I also have a problem with cold start too, that has been posted about 3 weeks ago. It doesn't do it all the time, hot start that is.

Oh and the battery is fine.

Get a very similar thing with mine, along with a cold start that doesn't immediately hit the high revs, strange thing is my last car which was a Type S civic on a 54 plate used to due the same thing with a hot start, I was always on the edge and still am with the accord as to how it's gonna start if I've pulled in for fuel. never got to the bottom of it on the civic, but have heard quite a few people with Hondas experiencing a similar hot start issue, must be some design flaw somewhere!!
Cheers Pete

^ yeah in a petrol engine with a carb, it's normal practice to put your foot down on the pedal when the engine is hot, to allow more air into the cylinders. But with DBW that won't work. Maybe a throttle-body issue on these engines (or fuel pressure, or both)

Hi so how is the fuel pressure maintained. Fuel pump or injectors???

Earlier Hondas had issues with the main relay failing and this would cause the car not to start when hot, but as it cooled down it would start again. The main relay contained the ignition and fuel pump relays. Some people have tried re soldering the relays and this has sometimes fixed it. I haven't seen a failed relay on the 7th gen yet. But there is always a first

I can tell you this with almost certainty that it's incorrect fitting of your fuel filter.

We had a similar issue on my wife's frv last year when we did the fuel filter. It turned out one of the o rings wasn't seated correctly and after the car had been sat for a while it was relieving fuel pressure and the car needed a long crank to build up the fuel pressure again and get it started.

Get whoever did your fuel filter to carefully dismantle it from the in tank pump again and double check their work and especially the o rings.

If it is since fuel filter change then I would agree with Fahad. I would get another fuel filter and try that, I have seen a few genuine filters cause issues. We even had one car have a new filter fitted, road tested it. Drove onto the mot ramp and it cut out. Fitted another filter no problems.

Yep it won't be the filter at fault but a slight leak in the fitting. It's not a normal service item as its set to a tolerance at the factory. Once you've done it once it's not that difficult a job but it did catch us out first time.

Thanks guys, well I fitted the new filter and was sure it was all ok, but will have a look in the morning as it doesn't take that long to take out and inspect.

Take it all apart and check the o rings carefully. You shouldn't have to force anything into place, if you do it's because one of the rings isnt seated right

I have a similar issue on my 2.4. Starts fine when its cold, but when starting when warm it sometimes turns over a few more times, then limply fires up, quick throttle blip and all is good.

It's never not started, so I've just left it tbh.
