Gentlemen,

I thought I'd share this with you.

Thanks to Ben Cooper and his thread '....what are you waiting for' I have spontaneously decided to get the remap done on my '05 i-cdti, which I now own for some good 30 days. At the beginning of this week I got in touch with Fahad and fixed an arrangement to get the car all done up yesterday. Fahad was very kind to give it a full diagnostic check (and explain the results - I am not the most car-savvy person). All seemed to be just fine, and shortly after the remap+erg off was done we got into the car to give it a go. Now this is where the magic unfolded and, I must confess, I was left flabbergasted. The pull and the throttle's responsiveness are just incomparable, while all the **** hesitation driving on lower revs on 3rd and 4th is simply gone!!! The difference is so big that I could not shake the smile off my face the whole day today! I'll admit yesterday it was the first time I gave it a full go downing the throttle to the very bottom and oh boy it drove quick. Fahad even suggested that I may be able to give my brother's acura legend a decent fight! :). Anyways, I think it could not have been a better timing to get this done as I'm about to do some 3k miles during my holiday in a few weeks!

I've seen on the forum that some have doubts about this. Well, if you want my advice then forget anything that may be bothering your mind and just do it. Get it done and it will make you plenty happy . I didn't know what to expect but now there is no way I would go back

Big thanks to Fahad!

Hey nice one Ignas - glad you're enjoying. That was a fine example of Accord you have there, absolute clean bill of health and passed all the diagnostics with flying colours B)

Enjoy your road trip and let your petrolhead brother have a go. Maybe you will convert him to the dark side

Sounds like a real win dude!!!!

Another happy customer of the big F.

It is well worth it eh?! :) did you go for a stage 1 or 2?

ChrisS, I got stage 1 done on mine. I may get stage 2 done at some point, but right now stage 1 is plenty for me. I would even say it was more than well worth it. As I mentioned before, I had some concerns and thoughts about getting this done myself. Luckily I just made a decision and stuck to it. Now that I've got the engine remapped I would certainly not go back. It would be probably worth it the cost was double! The engine just runs so smooth on low revs, just for that alone its worth it. It also feels great that you know you got the power if you needed to overtake or just felt like flying off of a traffic light. Get it done mate and you will not regret it    I certainly am not.

I've been out in a stage 1 and stage 2 mapped car, and it is amazing! I think that with the stage 2 then a clutch upgrade is advised.

He's already 'done' ;) And so's his pal's Golf TSI (supercharged and turbo charged 1.4 petrol making 210bhp) - YES that's 210bhp from a 1.4 petrol. German's FTW B)

It will be different for everyone. speak to your own company and find out for yourself mate. Tell them it's an economy tune.

What about insurance, how much did it go up by?
That's a reasonable question and I guess the lack of forthcoming replies may indicate that people aren't informing their insurance companies? However, as far as I can tell, it might be difficult to actually get a quote, as there appears to be no standard for what is meant by 'stage1', 'stage 2', etc, and different remapping specialists quote very different power increase figures for what they term 'stage 1'. But I do like Fahad's suggestion that you try to pass it off as an "economy tune"! ;)

I'm genuinely happy for Ignas, who seems very pleased with the results. But it seems a bit premature to extol the virtues of the remap after only one day of use! I look forward to reading a review from a member who has had the chance to objectively ***ess both the pros (obvious) and cons (maybe less immediately obvious) of remapping.

I will be doing a 3000+ mile trip in less than a month  Be ***ured I will share my experiences once I get back, or perhaps even when I'm half-way done with the trip! :) I think that might be quite interesting.

Sorry I wasn't suggesting anyone 'passes it off' as anything. Our Stage 1 is actually a blended eco tune and many insurance companies recognise economy tuning as a reasonable modification. And don't just ***ume nobody tells their insurance - it's just a different scenario and therefore price differential for everyone.

If you're looking for reviews, just search the forum - there's plenty.

While it may be of little use to find out exactly how much additional premium was paid by those declaring modifications to their insurance companies (and, as you say, that would obviously depend upon personal circumstances), it would definitely be of interest to hear from members regarding how their insurers actually responded to the question... I don't wish to contact mine until I have a bit more confidence that they'll not simply cancel my policy or charge me a stupid uplift premium. In fact, I'd rather not even suggest to them that I'm currently considering a stage 1 performance tune. I actually don't care if other people aren't informing their insurance companies (I'm not auditioning for the position of the forum's moral/ethical guardian!), but - for professional reasons - I personally would want to make sure that my insurance was properly in place.

And I have searched the forum; it isn't a difficult task, as there seems to have been a sudden spate of these (very similar) threads on page 1 of the '7th Gen Accord' page - this current thread, http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/10603-is-it-worth-getting-stage-1-re-map/ & http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/10850-stage-1-remap-egr-off-what-are-you-waiting-for/ - and all have been commented on in the last week.

that I have! I took his little 1.4 golf out and you are right, its a blinding little car now!!

I just need to stop fannying about and get my clutch sorted now!!

Don't be mistaken, the only reason I started this thread is because my pants were full of joy :) still are!

I didn't do anything in your pants  Honest guv!
