Is it essential to jack the car up to do the oil change or can it be done on the ground, or in my case near to a dropping kerb and yes its a hell of a drop it keeps trying to rip my other toys splitter off.
Guys this would make an oil change very hard.Just jack the car up use axle stands and chock the rear wheels job done.
Or if you have a good mate with a ramp use this
Yep i no what you mean Trev luckily for me i give my mate a tenner and use his ramp.
Or if you have room a good set of ramps are good and IMO think there a safer bet.
Its possible if you drive on two big bricks and chok rear wheels, but then thats not safer than axle stands imo. You can use drive on ramps, but my splitter gets in the way. I always lower the car back down onto the pan and let it sit their for a while draining.
If it's not lowered, you could raise it a few inches just from the drivers side and leave the wheels on. That will give you enough clearance to get to the sump bolt.
I've parked one wheel on the pavement/curb many a time to do an oil change. As said already I've got stands and trolley jacks but I still don't like going under the car. The thought of a head sandwich with the engine and tarmac/road as the bread is not appealing.
Well it turned out access wasn't the issue more the fact that the sump bolt seems to have been torqued with a breaker bar so onto a ramp on tuesday to use some better tools to loosen it.
Mine was tight too, I'm thinking I could get some good leverage on the front tyre if it was on the ground, more than I trust pulling it when I'm under the car on stands!!
