Hello All,

I got this error code ‘P0401 EGR insufficient flow’ on my car about 3 weeks ago. I have read on this forum and others that cleaning the EGR valve and air intake (EGR Ports) usually gets rid of the code.

I tried to take off the EGR Valve and could easily see the two 13mm bolts holding it on. However, the wiring loom, injector system and throttle body seemed to be in the way of putting a socket down there to undo the bolts. And I have never worked on the fuel system before, so I did not want to take off the injectors.

I took the car to a garage and they said that they cleaned the EGR Valve, I then deleted the code from the car and the car started to idle really ruff and a few hours later the same code appeared and the cars idling stabilised.

I am wondering if the garage did not clean the erg valves thoroughly enough? Or do I need to clean the egr ports too?

I found this write up on this forum, about cleaning the egr ports, but it is not detailed enough about how to remove the fuel injectors?

Does anybody have any detailed guides about cleaning the egr valve and egr ports? So that I can try it myself

Any other suggestions, from people who have faced this problem in the past would be appreciated?

Yeh just noticed the pics dont come up anymore. I still havent plucked up the courage to do this job yet.

Oh sorry. I'll txt Leon and see if he's moved the pics somewhere else lol

At a guess another victim of supermarket fuel lol, I’ve done this job a few times but I can’t find any pic’s :( the passages will need cleaning as-well as the EGR  Anyway if you’re willing to travel to me I will happily do the job for you and no charge as you’re a TA member and take a few pic’s for the forum in the process ;)

Just drop me a personal message, regards the Honda Man

Thanks for the offer really appreciate it but its a really far drive for me and I always use BP or Shell fuel. Not sure about previous owner. :)

Hi

My engine management light came on this morning and although I haven't had chance to check the codes yet, I suspect it is the EGR again.

I watched the 'Eddie the Car Guy' video on Youtube and had a look today, but I am struggling to take the fuel rail away from the block. Undoing the two bolts that hold the fuel rail, the left-hand one (as you look intothe engine bay, so the car's right-hand bolt) has a metal tube along side it which makes life difficult.

I bottled out after undoing the two bolts. When I levered the fuel rail it moves at the right, but won't budge at the left. The metal tube goes into a rubber hose just above the rail, and this hose attaches to the block. Will this come off fairly easily? I didn't try, as I didn't fancy trying to get it back on again (access is tight).

I've tried to upload some images, but I'm not sure if the board allows photobucket.

Managed to get it done this afternoon after reading this tutorial on another forum. Is this the one you were referring to luvmyaccord?
