Hi guys n gals

Love my Accord, not the problems

Three times now, my car wont start, turns over but no fire up

RAC been out all times, ran lots of diagnistics but nowt found

Squirted stuff down air intake whilst turning over has after a few cranks started it, with clouds of smoke out the back (was the unburt fuels they tell me)

On last occasion, the RAC man said it sounded like a fuel rail sensor issue, apparantly quite common once over 10 years old, but as the diagnostic didnt come up with a code he was just using his knowledge/experiance (was an older mechanic than the first two) but thinks the sensor is on the way out

So have tried to book into my local mechanics, who are happy to replace it, but its a main dealer part or internet part, and asked me to get it

Now looking online (google is your friend, lead me here) its a mine field

Would obe of you helpful chaps know the part number I need please?

Need to get car fixed asap as having a baby/todler under two, I cant risk it happening again if he's in car with me

Many thanks in advance

Brian

you can't buy the fuel rail sensor separately from Honda (they sell it on the fuel rail complete, for over a grand).

you can get it from Bosch or from a breaker's, but the problem might not be that

is the fuel filter a genuine OEM filter ? if not, then change the fuel filter to a genuine OEM before trying anythingflse

The link in the post above is worth reading too, and a couple more

Fuel filter replaced at annual service, yes an OEM

So a Bosch part is whats needed?

Who sells them at the best price and which one is correct for my Honda?

Oops. My bad. Didn't realise it's was the sensor he was after. Although isn't there a possibility it could be the valve?

There's every chance the pressure relief valve is leaking, this is very easy to check DO THIS FIRST, before spending money on a sensor that may well be ok.,

1 Take off the black return fuel line pipe from the pressure relief valve ,drivers side bottom of fuel rail ( Red arrows in picture) and crank the engine .There should be no fuel coming out of it at all.If there is, then it needs to be replaced as this is dropping the fuel rail pressure MAKING STARTING DIFFICULT.

I replaced the whole fuel rail on my tourer via ebay for 45 quid and it came with a pressure sensor as well !! mine turned out to be ok THE ABOVE TEST PIPE OFF proved the relief valve was shot and ebay was cheaper than a new valve, but as ever it's a risk as you don't know if your replacement is faulty or not, either way the test remains the same for your second hand part if you choose this route, fix it in position , pull the pipe off as in step 1 above and see if it leaks if it does not ,bingo.

Be aware the relief valve on the end of the rail is fastened very tight indeed, and if you just end up replacing that, it MUST be tightened back up to the correct torque.

see accord n22's post 9 no above this one, for a new one of these if you choose a new valve.

The part no for the Bosch Pressure sensor Blue circle in picture if you need to replace it:-

Shop around, but I would go against any non Bosch part to guarantee a match.

I have a spare pressure relief valve on my old fuel rail if you want to go down the second hand route, (simple fit unscrew replace, tighten ) if so, PM me.

PS If this does not cure your problem you may need to look at an injector leak back test which also gives rise to a drop in fuel rail pressure.
