Recommendations for rear speaker upgrade...?

Hi chaps,

Ok, so I want to upgrade my rear parcel shelf speakers. I've an 07 2.4 Ex with PSS. I've had a quick look at them and they appear to be Pioneer units. Will better Pioneer/other units really make a difference i.e. provide more bass? I'm interested in other people's experiences. Also what models would you recommend?

Your issues might be more down to the amp...there is a current thread running somewhere...have a little search.

Go for JBL. You don't need to worry about how good they are for treble as the amp filters the highs anyway. And from my experience JBL always give very good bass response.
You will be able to pick up a pair for £30 on Ebay.

The speakers will drop straight in under the covers on the shelf. No cutting or drilling needed.

And yes they will make a difference. It will not sound like your old Volvo though so go in with your eyes open.

The Pioneer speakers are only 40 watts and have a tiny magnet. Adding any of the above speakers will give you more bass but remember they wont be working to there full potential for about a month until they bed in properly.

Fab, thanks guys. JBL it is and for around £30 a pair, worth a punt. I'm not looking to match the Volvo system, just add a bit of depth to the sound.

I did this a LONG time ago with the Alpine Type-S (who know what revision it was lol) I have a review on here since u have the PSS the rears are only mainly for bass.

Will they ship from NZ? Never heard of the loudest? What will the quality be like?

Can't find any other 6x9 bass only speakers, therefore JBL 2 way seem a good bet, even if the tweeter isn't used!

I got a pair of Infinity reference series 6930i.. it definitely gives a more defined bass response. I think it's down to the size of the magnets too..

Not sure about the Lanzar, but I've done a bit of research on Theloudest and they don't seem to be well rated on ICE forums; they pretty much recommend sticking with JBL/Infinity (basically Harman products).

I'm wondering if it would be easier to drop either 6.5 or 8 in woofers in the rear parcel shelf with adaptors, as they are easier to obtain! Any ideas?

A good idea but more work involved if thinking to do properly.
