was thinking of getting a diy regas kit as air con been off line for about 6 months now
i have tested the gas by opening the valve and theres still some pressure left in so i suspect it gets needs topping up
has anyone used one and if anyone has any tips forme
thanks

You might want to read my "Diagnosing Aircon Problems" pinned in the DIY section, because it might not be the gas.

As you have a diesel, read the whole thread, there are many issues on the diesel which stop it working.

No re-gas details in the thread btw

I read Brian's thread prior to sorting mine yesterday. I had checked out the best way too, cost and value for money.
Looked at the regas kits in Halfords, then checked prices by garages. I went with the garage choice, £70 inc vat.
For that they changed the cabin filter, degassed the system and measured how much came out, which was 10 grammes.
Drew out the PAG oil an measurd that, 1.00cc.
Vacuum tested for leaks, test lasted 15 mins.
Regassed with 490 grammes of gas, 1.0cc of new PAG oil, added a UV dye too to enable easy checking for leaks in the future.
I sat and read a car mag, had a coffee, three ***s, and paid and left after 60 minutes. All work guaranteed. Much easier and cost effective than the Halfords DIY option.
Not saying DIY is bad option, but the air con system needs to be looked after correctly.
BTW, the garage said that I am now good for 2-3 years, and the airflow and mpg will be much better.

halfords kit is £60 place i take my car to is only £50 to do all of the above
but can get a kit off ebay for £30 so mite just give it a try

I've done it myself a few times now on various cars - always worked a treat!

If you keep your eyes open for deals, you can very often pick the cans up cheap (autumn/winter usually!) and get free air con cleaners as well.

well at a total cost of £27 air con is now working all parts from ebay
got a lead/psi gauge via Hong Kong £7
£19.99 can of gas took 5 mins and was blasting ice cold air
15 psi in system before i started so i knew there was not a leak topped it up to about 40 psi
i will let u know if it goes ***s up

Maybe do a DIY write up to help other members
Interested in trying this please

I know it worked for you which is great but you can get aircon recharge for £30, sometimes £15 when on offer through sites such as Groupon.

it's best to evacuate all the gas and replace properly with the correct weight and lubricating oils.

DIY regas couldn't be easier buy the can of Gas and the connector with gauge, connect to low pressure side of air con pipe which is the only place it fits as it wont fit high pressure side ..open the valve on the can while keeping the can upside down untill pressure goes up to around 30psi to 40psi i left mine at 40psi
obviously this is only going to work if your system has just lost pressure over time as they all do
hope this helps

Hopefully should be okay this time round but might be worth a garage visit next time because as Salim points out a professional recharge removes the all the old refrigerant and lubricant first and then replaces it with the right amounts of each, plus they check for leaks - but with a DIY kit the old stuff is still in there and you don't get to control the quantities of the separate fluids that go in. Well done sorting the job yourself without any problems - when I tried I wasn't so successful!
